Position Summary

As a Production Engineer you will work under the direction of the Area Manager and will be responsible for the planning, development, implementation and/or oversight of process improvement activities within the manufacturing plant. You could work in any of the following areas such as Fermentation, Recovery or Packaging. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • The recommendation and implementation of process improvements aimed at maximizing capacity utilization and reducing the cost of production through process optimization.
  • Implementing process changes that improve product quality and consistency.
  • Selecting best-suited process equipment for applications by meeting with vendors, running trials, and staying current on new technology.
  • Developing technical analysis of the performance of existing processes and process systems (e.g., fermentation, dry grinding, classification, surface treatment, packaging, screening)
  • Preparing written reports on findings with recommendations for further work.
  • Managing expenses and capital projects, when they occur, insuring operation and budget requirements.
  • Working with project engineering during the conception and installation of new equipment and processes to assure smooth and cost-effective introduction and startup.
  • Improving yield, throughput, operating efficiency, and reducing costs.
  • Continually works to improve plant output without compromising product quality or safety.
  • Correct process capability problems and achieve sustainable results.
  • The assigned capital projects at the plant and assists on larger capital projects by working directly with the Operations Manager or Sr. Project Manager.
  • Ensuring quality work is completed in a timely and safe manner.
  • Managing multiple projects at the same time

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering; Mechanical or relevant Engineering degrees
  • 1-3 years’ experience preferred performing process improvements, equipment installations and modifications in a manufacturing facility.  Solid internship experience will be considered.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required
  • Flexibility to come in if needed when all hands are needed. This is not standard but there will be occasions. We are all team players.
  • Ability to apply a disciplined experimental approach to solving production problems using data and current statistical tools
  • Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
