Position Summary
The intern serves in a rotational capacity within the HEM corporate accounting team, engaging at multiple levels and in multiple areas within the controllership team. The experience is designed to promote a broad understanding of the basics of general accounting within the HEM corporate controllership group. The intern will gain exposure to journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, fixed asset and project accounting, customer payment application, bank reconciliations, as well as participate in a special project to streamline manual journal entry uploads.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare and record monthly journal entries related to a variety of business/operational activity including but not limited to general accruals, prepaid expenses, and intercompany activity
- Generate balance sheet account reconciliations for HEM corporate and US business units
- Participate in Fixed Asset physical counts/validation for select manufacturing facilities on the current year rotation (Marblehead, Quincy PM, & Quincy NTR)
- Prepare fixed registers for counting, including assessment of population to be counted
- Coordinate advance preparation with the Plant Management & Plant Controller teams
- Execute the count onsite with the plant operations teams
- Reconcile the count results & ensure any impairment or write-off is documented and recorded
- Record and apply daily customer payments and research payment variances, including collaboration with the AR/Collections team
- Execute bank account reconciliations, identify reconciling items, and generate related month-end reporting
- Reconcile Project Accounting by capital project, record project closure forms, and generate fixed assets & commence depreciation
- Generate month-end reporting for product shipment volumes and employee headcount
- Special Project: Create automated Excel journal entry templates (ADI) for business units where not currently in use; partner with local accounting teams (e.g., Plant Controllers) to implement ADI

In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing payout.
