Position Summary

The Sr. Financial Practices & Technical Accounting Manager is responsible for the development, maintenance, and codification of a comprehensive set of financial practices for the Corporation, including corporate-wide, uniform policies and high-level procedures, as well as Sector specific financial policies and procedures. This position is responsible for working closely with the sectors, as well as corporate departments to ensure adherence to US GAAP and J.M. Huber’s Accounting Policies. The role will also support the accounting and financial ramifications of business decisions, implementation of various company-wide initiatives and special projects, which may include finance transformation, acquisition due diligence, integration, and divestiture projects. Responsible for technical accounting research for the company. Role has a direct effect on financial operations by increasing overall productivity and promoting best in class financial practices and procedures across the organization.

 

Flexible Work Arrangement: This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with three days based out of the Atlanta office and two days working from home each week.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain accounting policies in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Research and develop corporate accounting policies, accounting memos and whitepapers
  • Research and evaluate new accounting pronouncements and technical standards and ensure compliance with GAAP during and after implementation. Assist with the implementation and reporting of new accounting standards
  • Preparation and review of annual and quarterly financial statements and footnotes to ensure compliance with relevant authoritative rules and regulations
  • Research the accounting treatment for complex transactions and implement conclusions
  • Review and provide guidance for technical memos and analysis; evaluate periodic testing such as goodwill and other impairment analyses
  • Research technical accounting guidance for sector/business-specific scenario analysis
  • Perform business combination and consolidation accounting, including overseeing purchase accounting and development of pro forma financials. Support Mergers & Acquisitions, due diligence, and integration planning
  • Review contracts, research guidance and coordinate with accounting to ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP
  • Review capital investment evaluations for all large investment projects for accuracy and consistency with the Company's investment criteria, including independent evaluation of critical financial assumptions
  • Participate in the development of new financial metrics and emerging financial practices within the corporation, e.g., variable compensation modelling
  • Provide technical accounting assistance and support to Corporate and Sector financial functions on a project basis. This may include the preparation of complex financial modelling to support internal and external requests
  • Participate in the oversight of the internal controls program
  • Promote the sharing of knowledge and best practices across the financial organizations of the Company, by assisting in communicating them where applicable and initiating financial training protocols
  • Manage/assist with projects or participate in other teams as directed by the Assistant Corporate Controller and will perform other duties as needed

Education, Specialized Knowledge & Required Skills

Required:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
  • CPA designation
  • 10+ years’ experience in corporate financial leadership
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP rules and regulations required; Knowledge of IFRS a plus.
  • Excellent accounting skills and advanced knowledge of US GAAP, with a proven ability to research and conclude upon complex accounting issues.
  • Strong understanding of accounting/financial processes related to manufacturing operations.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Overall knowledge of general, financial processes. Multi-industry experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills necessary with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Technical Accounting with requirement for high levels of accuracy/little room for error
  • Ability to work independently under general guidance

 

Preferred:

  • Masters in Accounting or MBA
  • Big 4 Public Accounting or relevant industry experience
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience
  • Strong understanding of accounting/financial processes related to manufacturing operations
  • Knowledge of IFRS
