Position Summary

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identify, recommend, support, and implement process improvements maximizing capacity utilization, reducing the cost of production, and improving product quality through process analysis and optimization.
  • Assist in quality improvements, cost reduction, and equipment utilization through statistical analysis and Six Sigma techniques.
  • Monitor process operations for evidence of excessive energy usage, water consumption, and solid waste generation.
  • Prepare project documentation, including: feasibility reports, project cost estimates, scopes of work, EHS&S reviews, process change records, change management facility and process change records and capital appropriations requests.
  • Develop capital project scopes, P&ID’s, process flow diagrams to include equipment sizing and design specifications. Provide installation and validation support, writing operating instructions and safety documents.
  • Lead project teams during feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning phases of capital facilities.
  • Design and implement process changes that improve product quality and consistency.
  • Analyze and document plant process and operating procedures, meeting requirements of the ISO 9001.
  • Analyze the production rates to assist the operating group is meeting production goals.
  • Provide technical support in problem solving in the areas of procedures, methods, and/or equipment. Utilize and/or champion six sigma techniques to achieve optimal process control.
  • Creation/modification of process, flow diagrams, piping, and instrument diagrams, equipment specs, control logic, etc.
  • Support Operational Excellence opportunities.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience in chemical process or other heavy industrial manufacturing required.  
  • Experience working in a chemical plant environment is preferred. 
  • Familiar with control technologies.
  • Demonstrates mastery in several of the following areas: alumina refining and precipitation, milling and packaging technologies, boiler and cooling tower optimization, process development, process control, technology transfers, new product development, and capital project management.
  • Proficient in using software such as MS Office, Auto CAD, and other applications to develop and maintain documents, spreadsheets, and data bases. Experience in working with management systems.
  • Knowledge of six sigma tools, statistical analysis, and problem solving is highly desirable.  Experience in implementing engineering projects and working with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience which includes evaluating the performance of existing and new processes, making recommendations based on these evaluations, and successfully implementing process improvements. This may include the completion of capital projects.  
  • Demonstrated ability to set and deliver project objectives, goals, and timelines.
  • Demonstrates effective skills in planning, supervising, monitoring, and accomplishing the goals of specific project requirements.  
  • Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
