Position Summary
Contributes to the creation of a productive and effective work environment by providing support and knowledge of the following Human Resources functional areas: workplace planning and employment, Human Resources development, recruiting, orientation and onboarding, compensation and benefits, payroll, employee and labor relations, occupational health & safety, training, security, HR law, wellness, budgeting, workers compensation, and strategic management.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Meets staffing needs for nonexempt positions by attracting, screening, and presenting qualified candidates to managers/supervisors; participates in the interview and selection process.
- Ensures that employees are paid correctly and in a timely manner by maintaining payroll operations and resolving payroll discrepancies through the use of current and emerging technologies.
- Supports operational efficiency and effective planning by maintaining the Human Resource Information System (HRIS); retrieving data as needed; analyzing and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintains open communication channels with employees and managers by developing and presenting training programs (for both formal and informal settings); answering questions; explaining policies and procedures regarding HR, payroll, and benefits issues.
- Confirms the effectiveness of HR/payroll policies and procedures by monitoring and reporting on a wide range of HR functions, such as the maintenance of job requirements, job descriptions, performance appraisals, development plans, pay rules, and payroll processing guidelines.
- Maintains employee confidence and protects operations by keeping confidential information.
- Complies with Federal, State, and local employment law by following policies and procedures.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Manages the Performance management system and coaches managers on constructive criticism, honest and open feedback, and continuous employee improvement practices.
- Performs general physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, moving the whole body, and multilimbed coordination.
- Prepare and keep all EE0/AAP logs current.
- Responsible for the coordination and resolution of benefits and compensation questions and problems.
- Advises managers/supervisors of employee performance review schedule; follow up on any delinquent or inconsistent reviews.
- Review and update the key log and gate card system semi-annually.
- Update job descriptions annually.
- Process employee reimbursements.
- Process donation requests.
- Complete monthly random drug testing.
- Complete month-end reports for Broken Bow.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements & Preferred Competencies
- BS in Human Resources or related field preferred
- 1-3 years’ experience in Human Resources, preferably in manufacturing
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, working knowledge of HRIS Systems
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to handle confidential information, ability to gain respect from all employees
- PHR Certification/SHRM-CP a plus
Major Challenges
- To maintain constant awareness of employee performance, attitudes and morale through daily contacts and to recommend courses of action for improving them.
- To effectively communicate, through supervisors and group presentations, changes or new programs in personnel areas to all plant employees to ensure that these changes are understood.
- To ensure Sector and Corporate policies are being followed. To keep the Plant Manager and Vice-President of Human Resources informed of significant personnel-related problems in the plant and to recommend action plans to resolve them.
- To organize time and priorities to effectively handle multiple functions.
- To utilize skills to motivate others.
- Ability to work effectively in an environment of rapid and ongoing change.
- Stay current on all State, Federal, and corporate employment, compensation, and benefits laws and guidelines, ensuring their consistent and effective application throughout the Commerce area.
- Stay current with Human Resources “best practices” through the development of personal skills and those of the Human Resources Assistance through attendance at seminars and training opportunities.
