Position Summary

Assure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and corporate environmental regulations, and permit requirements (air, water, etc.). Coordinate the development and administration of the EHS Management systems, policies, procedures and programs at the Crystal Hill facility.  Provide plant-wide engineering support for design, utilization and operational issues relating to the facility and division-wide support relating to environmental regulatory compliance as needed.  Audits compliance status of all EHS programs. Maintains and monitors the compliance assurance system including permit status and requirements, methods, compliance calendar and audits.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinates environmental compliance activities including:
    • Inspecting and monitoring the operations and maintenance of pollution control equipment for optimal operating efficiency: documentation and recordkeeping associated with said activities.
    • Completion and submission of all environmental reporting required by Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and EPA, including but not limited to: emissions Inventory, SARA 311/312/313, Title V semi-annual and quarterly reports, annual compliance certifications.
  • Coordinates air emissions testing, as required by Virginia Department of Environmental Quality or other    agencies, with other plant operations to ensure maximum performance of all operating parameterswhich influences equipment efficiency.
  • Manages the effective utilization and disposal of all solid waste, which includes but is not limited to wood, ash, used oil, paper, woodyard waste, debris and rechargeable materials.

Duties & Responsibilites cont

  • Coordinates the development, implementation, certification and updating of the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan for industrial activity and the Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan and Title V Air permit compliance plan.
  • Maintains the Sustainability Environmental Performance data for the site.
  • Tracks environmental costs and develops cost reduction initiatives. 
  • Maintains liaison with state agencies to facilitate site plans for expansion and/or modifications to permits.
  • Maintain the compliance plan for the PCWP MACT.
  • Oversee and conduct in-house air testing using the onsite emissions testing equipment and be responsible for upkeep and maintenance of the test equipment.
  • Maintain emission inventories for use in calculating permit fees per applicable state requirements and submits fees to accounting for prompt payment.
  • Share responsibility with Safety Manager for the coordination, development, implementation, record keeping, reporting, training and updating of the Facility Emergency Response Plan.
  • Ensures compliance with certification to perform visible emission observation pursuant to EPA Method 9.

  • Semi-annual recertification required to continue documentation of air emissions compliance as required in Crystal Hill’s air emissions license.
  • Supervises Environmental Coordinator.
  • Manages the J.M. Huber EHS Management system along with the EHS and S Manager. Acts as the SME for HSMS EHS 200 Environmental Compliance Management.
  • Maintains all required ties with the other HSMS elements including all required activity screening for new and trial activities and implementing and updating compliance plans as needed to support all applicable changes.
  • Provides EC 101 training to new hire employees.
  • Manage capital projects related to EHS compliance equipment.
  • Investigates and completes written reports of investigation and findings and/or recommendations for all environmental incidents, equipment malfunctions, and nonconformance.  
  • Other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager or EHS&S manager.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Environmental (or other related technical discipline). Engineering or equivalent with 3 to 5 years in a plant environmental/safety facilities leadership position.

Any offered salary is determined based on relevant factors such as an applicant's skills, performance, job responsibilities, prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications and market considerations.

 

U.S. Market-Based Salary Range

Environmental Manager

[$110,000.00 - $126,000.00]

 

In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing payout.
