Position Summary

The Area Engineer will design, develop, and manage projects for enlarging, modifying, and maintaining the designated area in order to improve products and related processes.  Also, improve the plant bottom line by revealing ways to minimize waste and resources while increasing customer satisfaction.  Provide technical support for production, maintenance, quality control, and management to ensure the safety, efficiency, quality and performance of new and existing processes, equipment and products.  Optimize existing processes and products.  Evaluate new processes and products through coordination with production, maintenance, research, and quality control.  

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Design, develop, and manage projects for enlarging, modifying, and maintaining the facility in order to improve products and related processes.
  2. Set standards and objectives for employees and the area
  3. Lead team towards the effective collaboration and attainment of goals
  4. Utilize sound financial management abilities to ensure profitability while staying within budget
  5. Analyze projects concerning major plant down grade and downtime issues.
  6. Identify cost cutting and process improvement initiatives
  7. Analyze, identify and resolve production challenges.  Will develop area projects focused on continuous improvement of operations.
  8. Evaluates and implements new technologies and tools to achieve overall improvement of key processes.
  9. Identify and recommend best-in-class processing equipment for targeted applications by meeting with vendors, running trials and staying current on new technology.
  10. Assist production with new or modified equipment and processes by training, writing operating procedures and conducting trial runs.
  11. Optimize existing and evaluate new processes and products by coordinating efforts of production, maintenance and quality control personnel.
  12. Analyze plant operations focusing on bottlenecking of product flow.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • BS required in Wood Products, Quality Assurance, or Engineering discipline
  • 5 years Wood Products experience preferred.
  • Competence in Statistics required:  SPC and ISO 9000 desired.
  • Proficient in:  CAD programs, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, and Statistical Packages.
