Position Summary
Lead and direct the environmental, health and safety efforts at Fairmount, GA (Manufacturing Site & Technical Center) & Kennesaw, GA (Manufacturing) sites. Identify, manage, direct, and audit the systems required to limit risk factors leading to environmental mishaps, compliance violations, job-related injury or illness, property damage, and bad public relations. Support the creation of a proactive EHS strategy that will drive an environmentally sustainable enterprise. Aid in the development and implementation of location specific EHS policies, procedures, and programs. Ensure that compliance related activities such as environmental permits requirements, EHS training, are robust and well-maintained.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Managing the EHS function for the sites and providing EHS training and staff development while maintaining and/or improving EHS performance.
- To manage EHS programs that achieves a leadership position for HEM among its competitors and is recognized as such by its customers, including its regulators. This requires analytical ability, social skills, and a good understanding of how governmental compliance programs work.
- To demonstrate competency in relating complex procedural and technical problems in regulatory law and compliance procedures to operations and engineering managers to assure site compliance with environmental and safety law and that they meet their business objectives. This requires tact, demonstration of competency, and the ability to develop trusting relationships with other stakeholders.
- To assure timely and accurate reporting of data related to EHS performance. This requires developing and implementing systems that ensure the flow of timely data without becoming unduly burdensome.
- Without direct authority over manufacturing managers, engineering managers, and research managers, administering and evaluating a complex, multi-disciplined function that must comply with unique government regulations, generic corporate guidelines, and the needs of a rapidly changing business unit.
- To deal with current environmental and safety issues while staying abreast of new laws and regulations. This requires extensive reading and consultation with other EHS professionals.
- Efficiently manage outside consultants and contractors when needed to achieve positive results. Working with site managers and coordinators to manage routine EHS issues that require training, technical, and social skills.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- Minimum B.S. degree, or equivalent education, in Engineering, Law, Environmental Science, Safety – advanced degrees a plus.
- Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, CHMM or in process to achieve certification is a plus.
- 5+ years with progressive responsibility and experience in safety, environmental, production and/or related careers.
- Implementation of safety or environmental management systems RCMS, OSHAS 18000, ISO 14000, etc.
- Proven strong Training and persuasive skills.
- Must understand, read, write, and speak using the English language.
- Proven excellence in both written and oral communication.
- Ability to develop and implement strategic EHS processes.
- Proven skill in administering and managing EHS at multiple sites.
- Computer literate and skilled in Excel, Word, and Power Point.
- Incident investigation tools and techniques ECF, root cause analysis SCAT, etc.
