Position Summary

We are looking for a driven, detail-oriented individual to join our Huber Advanced Materials R&D group located in Fairmount GA (just 30 miles north of Atlanta). As an R&D Technician, you will work under the direction of a Senior Scientist. Following extensive on-the-job training, you will independently complete designated tasks that contribute to new product development and technical service projects supporting Huber’s customers and domestic production facilities. This position has great opportunity for growth as you will learn new synthetic and spectroscopic techniques as well as flame retardancy formulation and testing. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with a chemistry background and an interest in scientific research, chemical engineering, and driving new product development to commercialization.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of a Senior Scientist on projects relating to new product development and customer technical service.
  • In accordance with SOPs, synthesize and characterize inorganic materials and compounds.
  • In accordance with SOPs, prepare, characterize, and perform fire retardancy testing of polymer compounds.
  • Perform laboratory activities safely, including handling of chemicals in accordance with Huber and government policies and regulations.
  • Maintain neat, accurate, and up-to-date laboratory notebooks and research documentation.
  • Consistently multitask and balance the needs of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Occasionally work in a non-climate-controlled environment exposed to heat, cold, and dust.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • AS or BS degree or 0-5 years of chemical industry experience – combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • Experience working in a chemistry laboratory.
  • Experience with polymer compounding and testing, including fire retardancy testing a plus
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have English language proficiency.
  • Must have an open mindset, and good communication skills in conversations and presentations.
