Position Summary

We are seeking a Technical Service Manager to join our Fire Retardant Additives R&D group. This is first and foremost a customer-facing role and will be primarily responsible for working closely with customers to provide technical support and serve as a technical expert on cross-functional teams to drive new business development. The ideal candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter with a strong background in polymer and/or inorganic chemistry, experience in plastics engineering, and a passion for teamwork and customer service.

Travel: 30%. Must be able to travel domestically and internationally, as required.
Location: Fairmount, GA (30 miles north of Atlanta, GA) 
Relocation: Available
 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

•    Lead customer technical service activities related to thermoplastics technologies focusing on building/construction, Electrical & Electronic, and reusable plastic packaging applications.  
•    Build and maintain strong customer relationships.  
•    Lead customer complaint investigations and product performance troubleshooting activities. Provide technical support at customer production trials.  
•    Help drive new business development by providing strategic recommendations for new and existing Huber products through technical presentations and papers.  
•    Lead cross-functional product development projects from ideation through manufacturing scale-up and commercialization.  
•    Leverage technical skills and customer needs to propose and champion innovative new product concepts.  
 

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

Required Skills

•    MS degree in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field with 3+ years of industrial experience. PhD degree preferred.  
•    2+ years of experience with customer technical service in the chemical or plastics industries.  
•    Excellent technical communication skills with a recent track record of authoring conference presentations and papers.  
•    Experience with new product development and commercialization.  
•    Experience with managing cross-functional projects.  
•    Supervising laboratory technicians or entry level professionals.  
•    Strong commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainability.  
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with the use of thermoplastic compounds in building/construction, Electrical & Electronic, and reusable plastic packaging applications (Thermoplastic roofing, Architectural Building Panels, Injection Molded Electrical Enclosures, Plastic storage containers and pallets, etc.)
  • Knowledge of polyolefin and elastomer chemistry.
  • Knowledge of functional fillers for polymer compounds: chemistry, manufacturing, and characterization.
  • Knowledge of fire protection chemistry, fire retardant additives, and fire testing methodologies.
  • Understanding of polymer testing, polymer additives, chemical techniques for polymer additive characterization.
