Summary

CP KELCO is looking for a Safety Engineer with PSM experience

 

The Safety Engineer at the Großenbrode Plant plays a pivotal role in leading and directing the process safety engineering function. This position optimizes CPKelco’ s process safety performance by developing and implementing standards, initiatives and risk management strategies to mitigate identified risk, ensuring world-class Process Safety excellence. Work closely with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to integrate safety into all aspects of operations. His  The role includes requires to promote a culture of safety awareness through ongoing education and communication. Reporting to the Plant Manager and the Platform Process Safety Manager, the Process Safety Engineer will serve as a subject matter expert and resource, providing expertise and guidance on process safety-related functions.

Responsibilities

Hazard Assessment and Risk Management:

 

  • Implement and manage process safety programs in conjunction with VP of EH&S that achieve and/or support Operational Excellence and World Class Maintenance efforts.  
  • Act as plant-level subject matter expert on the process safety management standard, HSMS 230 (Identification, Assessment, and Prioritization of Risks), process safety management of capital projects, safety critical equipment and controls and HSMS 400 (Monitoring, Measuring and Operational Control)
  • Provide expertise in process safety-related risk assessment and risk management, including fire, explosion, gas release and chemical reactivity hazards.
  • Coordinate and participate as the team lead for process hazard analysis (PHAs) when required and ensure a 5-year re-validation plan is in place.
  • Interface with insurance companies and or loss control/risk management regarding protection and mitigation systems.
  • Contact person for the area of control and risk management.

 

Mechanical integrity and safety equipment:

 

  • Advisory function in the selection of safety-critical accessories/devices and equipment such as ventilation, suppression, fire, and explosion protection systems as well as safety-relevant signaling, alarming, interlocking and detection systems.
  • Providing expertise in the field of mechanical integrity, process safety systems, test protocols and risk mitigation.
  • Oversee the selection, installation, and maintenance of safety equipment and systems. 
  • Ensure that safety systems are functioning properly and meet required standards.

 

Standards development and training:

 

  • Consideration/development/support/implementation of currently applicable process safety management standards (identification, assessment, and prioritization of risks), in all PPP-relevant activities (e.g. implementation of capital projects, integration of safety-critical plants/parts and control elements).
  • Create and implement process safety training programs to enhance the skills of site personnel, including PHA/HAZOP training. 
  • Stay current with advancements in safety technologies and best practices.

 

Process Analysis and Action Plans:

 

  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of equipment, facilities, and work practices.
  • Identify non-compliance issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Cross-departmental implementation of process safety programs in cooperation with relevant departments (e.g. EHS&S).
  • Prepare and track the completion of corrective action plans to address hazard analysis results and ensure identified risks have been mitigated to an acceptable level. 
  • Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, inspections, and training activities.
  • Prepare and submit required safety reports to regulatory authorities.

Additional activities

 

  • Monitor and report on process safety critical success factors and metrics.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of equipment, facilities, and work practices.
  • Facilitate communication between locations to share best practices and key learnings.
  • Develop and implement process safety management auditing protocols.
  • Conduct Audits according to the PSM200 standard and provide assistance in closing identified gaps.
  • Conducting and/or participating in investigations of process safety incidents, including identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  • Participate in the capital review and approval process for the GRB facility.
  • Participate in corporate and sector initiatives, providing technical counsel on process safety.
  • Implementation of all requirements for process safety and explosion protection in the technical design of the systems
  • Compliance with applicable GMP and occupational safety requirements regarding the technical equipment used, if necessary, after consultation with the specialist departments

 

People:

 

  • Develop/support or implement training programs to improve the Group's own skill level and other key functions at its own and other plant sites.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness through ongoing education and communication

Requirements

 

  • Successfully completed studies (Dipl.-Ing or M. Sc., possibly doctorate) in the field of process engineering or chemical engineering, primarily in food technology, with several years of professional experience.
  • Very good IT skills (SAP, MS Office, analysis tools) including presentation experience.
  • Well-founded, broad specialist knowledge in the areas of preparing systematic risk assessments, assessing chemical reactions with the design of appropriate protection systems as well as the preparation of safety reports and accident analyses
  • (e.g. What-If, HAZOP-LOPA)
  • Communication and teamwork skills as well as a strong customer orientation
