Position Summary

 

This position will be responsible for all technical matters pertaining to products and applications of Mller Chemical & Fertilizer/Huber Engineered Materials, SAS (Specialty Agriculture Solutions) BU.  As leader of the SAS Technology function, this position will oversee the formulations of existing SAS products while developing successful new products and solutions for SAS to enable commercial growth and enhanced competitive advantage.  This position will be a member of the SAS Leadership Team, helping to drive and deliver superior results for the business, reporting in the SVP GM. This position will be based in Hanover, PA. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Initial responsibilities include the establishment of a new lab at the Hanover, PA site
  • Manage and own the formulations of SAS products
  • Lead the NPD (New Product Development) Steering Team in collaboration with the Director of Marketing
  • Ensure NPD projects are well organized and follow the NPD stage gate process
  • Hold self and the NPD Steering Team accountable for the innovation pipeline projects in terms of quantity, quality (impact and sustainability), velocity and commercial success
  • Provide technical leadership in understanding marketplace requirements, translating customer needs into a compelling technical product portfolio
  • Enhance overall research capabilities by identifying, proposing, and fostering external research collaborations with external technology experts and partners (Universities, companies, institutions, consultants)
  • Be a thought leader in the business and work with the SAS Leadership Team on strategic projects and initiatives
  • Lead and develop papers/presentations at technical conferences, publications, as appropriate
  • Collaborate with SAS Agronomists to ensure a rich set of trials are conducted to maximize growth and success
  • Set and manage the technology budget with the ability to prioritize projects and optimize outcomes

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

 

  • M.S. in chemistry, chemical engineering, agriculture or related field 10+ years experience in formulation development in the field of agricultural chemicals; preferably a Ph.D. and 7+ years experience
  • Experience with biological formulations is highly desirable
  • 3+ years experience as a people manager in Technology/R&D
  • A successful track record of new product developments and technical accomplishments with significant business impact delivering profitable growth
  • Experience using a structured Stage-Gate process for new product developments
  • Ability to analyze complex market and technical problems, distilling down the information to the most important and critical factors required to achieve success.
  • Ability to manage resources and set priorities to deliver maximum impact
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to adapt to various business audiences
  • Demonstrated ability and passion in working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including commercial, technical, operations and regulatory colleagues
  • Strong team player
  • Strong business acumen
