Position Summary

Utilize engineering knowledge and expertise to lead maintenance department and support plant operations.  Directly manage Maintenance Supervisor.  Identify and evaluate process improvements and new technologies.  Implement projects which result in improved process yield, increased capacity, improved operating efficiencies, recognizable cost savings, improved product quality, and new products.  Implement and manage expense and minor capital projects.  Participate / contribute on project teams in implementation of major capital projects.

  • Assess infrastructure and recommend upgrades to meet plant needs
  • Optimize existing processes and implement improved technologies without compromising quality or profitability.
  • Function in a fast paced, changing environment while managing multiple projects.
  • Provide multiple engineering functions for the Plant, including process, project and quality.  Position will require approximately 10% travel.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Guide maintenance department by focusing on predictive & preventive maintenance.  Identify improvement & reliability opportunities. 
  • Support operations to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead productivity and capability improvement efforts.
  • Support product quality.  Document / trend product quality and coordinate resolution.
  • Work in cross-functional capex teams to install new facilities or modify / expand existing facilities.  Optimize processes (quality, yield, capacity, etc.).
  • Serve a subject matter expert for Site Level Change Management and ensure maintenance activities comply with EH&S policies / procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Identify and correct production planning & scheduling process capability issues.
  • Assist in quality improvements, cost reduction, and equipment utilization through statistical analysis and Six Sigma techniques.
  • Coordinate / focus maintenance and/or capital resources to resolve quality deficiencies.
  • Analyze and document maintenance processes and procedures.  Assist in drafting procedures and training operators to process changes.
  • Prepare capital project documentation, including feasibility reports, project estimates, project schedules, scopes of work, EH&S reviews, and capital appropriations requests (CAR).
  • Creation / modification of process flow diagrams (PFD’s), piping & instrument diagrams (P&ID’s), equipment specifications, control logic, etc.
  • Creation / modification of detailed design documents, including equipment & piping arrangements, civil and structural details, electrical elementaries, PLC schematics, loop sheets, etc.
  • Manage on-site construction activities for capital projects, including selection / supervision of contractors, safety orientations, safety inspections, coordination with operations, resolution of design conflicts, and management of change orders, etc.
  • Support customer technical service and NPD.  Duties will include scale-up of processes, analysis of product performance and management of vendor and / or plant trials.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • A 4-year engineering degree at an accredited university with a minimum of 5 years experience in manufacturing.  Experience in Mineral Processing or Chemical Process Industries strongly preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Experience in evaluating processes and implementation of process improvements. 
  • Experience in unit operations such as particle size reduction, classification, bulk material handling, pneumatic conveying, powder drying, and processing preferred.
  • Maintenance management experience preferred
  • Operations experience a plus
  • AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • Six Sigma training and familiarity with statistical analysis software (Minitab) is a plus.
  • Process control experience and PLC programming knowledge is a plus.
  • Must work well without direct or constant supervision and adjust to changing priorities.
