Position Summary

The EHSS Intern will support key safety, training, and digital workflow initiatives that strengthen compliance, improve operational consistency, and reduce long‑term administrative burden. This role is ideal for a students pursuing a degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field who is interested in gaining hands‑on experience in EHS program development, digital tools, and continuous improvement.

The Intern will provide dedicated support on two major initiatives: (1) Contractor and employee new‑hire training standardization and (2) Deployment of a digital safety observation and corrective action workflow. This work involves data organization, system testing, process documentation, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support development of a standardized, role‑based training matrix covering employees and contractors.
  • Assist in the digital delivery of training content and the centralization of training records.
  • Help improve audit readiness through consistent documentation and data accuracy.
  • Participate in document migration, data structuring, and user validation activities.
  • Assist with deployment and refinement of a mobile safety observation tool.
  • Support configuration, testing, and user onboarding for the digital platform.
  • Organize and structure data to enable reporting, trend analysis, and follow‑up tracking.
  • Help align corrective action workflows with existing maintenance systems, including work order integrationwhere applicable.
  • Build and maintain training matrices and employee/contractor training records.
  • Support data cleanup efforts and enhance reporting dashboards.
  • Contribute to the creation of sustainable processes and documentation that reduce long‑term administrativeworkload.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects as assigned.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Operations, or arelated field.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize large sets of data.Interest in safety systems, digital tools, andprocess improvement.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, or other data‑management tools is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in both office and industrial/manufacturing environments.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer for data entry, reporting, and documentation activities.
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and navigate production or operational areas.
  • Capability to lift and carry materials or equipment up to 50 pounds, as needed.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers, printers, mobile devices, and scanners.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE in manufacturing areas, including safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, safety-toe boots, and other site-specific PPE as required.
  • Ability to safely access various work areas, including manufacturing floors, warehouses, maintenance shops, or contractor work zones.
  • Visual ability to review detailed documents, spreadsheets, dashboards, and digital workflows.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, contractors, and cross-functional teams in both office and field settings.
  • Occasional travel between facilities or work areas may be required, depending on project needs.
