Position Summary

The Electrical, Instrumentation and Automation EIA Technician performs highly skilled maintenance duties required to maintain plant, mine, packaging, and truck loadout electrical equipment and process control systems.  Technicians will troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance (PM), calibrate, configure and install electrical, electronic, instrumentation and automation equipment. This will include low voltage systems, AC and DC systems, lighting, motors, starters, soft starters, VFD’s, power supply wiring (including conduit), transformers, programmable controllers, process control systems, electrical components as well as pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

 

Employees are responsible for maintaining compliance with Huber’s Sustainability Management System within his/her sphere of influence. This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, wastewater permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as required.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Complete any necessary documentation to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. 
  • Observes all safety rules and regulations, as well as complying with national electrical code (NFPA-70), electrical safety in the workplace (NFPA-70E) and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA)
  • Knowledge of the basics of the regulations and law affecting assigned work areas and working to ensure that all regulations and laws are followed.  Responsible for bringing all EH&S incidents or concerns to management for resolution.
  • Installs and/or replaces electrical motors, switches, receptacles, solenoids, heater bands, thermocouples, fuses, magnetic and solid-state motor controls, transformers, and other electrical equipment.
  • Monitors plant equipment troubleshoots electrical and automation problems and makes repairs necessary.
  • Make new electrical drawings and maintain existing drawings as needed.
  • Replace, repair, troubleshoot, calibrate, or clean electrical, instrumentation and automation systems
  • Troubleshooting visually and with varied testing equipment all EIA systems throughout the Plant.  Changes hardware in system to maintain interface between automation and operations as needed
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment that monitors flow, temperature, density, and pressure equipment.
  • Install conduit and pull wire for new and existing lighting, electrical and automation installations.
  • Programs and commissions soft starters, VFD’s, PLC’s and HMI’s
  • Installs, maintains and troubleshoots plant Process Control System hardware and programming software
  • Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a variety of process instrumentation.
  • Communicates and works with engineering and vendor technical reps as needed.
  • Communicate daily with area supervisors who prioritize, and delegates work to the technicians.  Communicate findings with management
  • Follows verbal or written instructions from supervision and management
  • Responsible for regular work orders as well as emergencies throughout the Plant or Mine. 
  • Directs the work of other workers who assist with electrical maintenance and installations.
  • Utilizes and inputs data into the CMMS system as required
  • Assist plant employees in the proper operation of equipment.
  • Responsible for housekeeping in all work areas.
  • Operate a fork truck and arial manlift.
  • Assist in mechanical maintenance operations as necessary.
  • Be vigilant of issues and conditions that can affect their fellow workers.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED required; prefer an associate degree in Vocational, Electrical, Instrumentation, and Automation
  • 7 years’ experience in Industrial Electrical, Instrumentation and Automation or completion of an accredited Apprenticeship Program in Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation Systems required
  • Advanced computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Windows, RSLogx 5, 500 and 5000, RSView32, Factory Talk Studio and AutoCAD
  • Advanced knowledge of Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), PwerFlex VFD’s and Rockwell Automation RSView32, Factory Talk Site Edition and Machine Edition programming/software and hardware experience required
  • Basic understanding of Process Control Network (PCN) Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet and DH+ communication networks experience required
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work alone or partner or team setting
  • Ability to accept and follow all safety procedures
  • Ability to read and understand drawing and schematics, electrical diagrams, PFD’s and P&ID’s
  • Ability to perform job functions independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend company safety manuals, SOPs, and MSDS sheets.
  • Data entry capable
  • Ability to safely move in and through work areas, including climbing stairs, maintaining good balance, being mentally alert, having good visual acuity and safely working at heights
  • Ability to safely work in and around heavy industrial environments, including moving objects, haul trucks, loaders, and transport vehicles
  • Complete Pre-Job Workplace Examinations per MSHA
  • Responsible for the safe and compliant storage/inspection/usage of tools and equipment as assigned
  • Physical work environment is frequently outdoors and exposed to varying temperatures from below 32 degrees to above 85 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Must be capable of completing First Responder training (which includes: First Aid, CPR, AED, Blood borne pathogens)

Physical Requirements

  • Works in all inside and outside areas of the plant and underground mine.
  • Routinely exposed to harsh conditions such as extreme heat and cold, rain, snow, dust/dirt, stone spillage, noise, vibrations, electricity, and humidity.
  • Exposed to heights and hard to reach work areas.
  • Ability to lift and handle an average of 50+lbs routinely.
  • Routinely stoop, bend, lift, push, pull, climb, kneel, squat, twist body, crawl.
  • Must be capable of wearing required PPE for entire shift: Hard hat, safety-toed boots, safety glasses, safety harness/lanyard, gloves, hearing protection etc.
