Position Summary

Mill Utility Operators are responsible for the safe and efficient feeding of rock to the process plant as well as loading customer trucks.  They must be capable of assisting in the milling process and filling in for Mill Operators when needed, as well as assisting maintenance in various tasks. Employee is responsible for maintaining compliance with Huber’s Sustainability Management System within his/her sphere of influence. This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, wastewater permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as required.  

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Load customer trucks with strict adherence to company procedures and customer expectations.
  • Perform duties of shipping operator as needed.  This includes paperwork, truck loading and receiving.
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) on plant feed system as needed including cleaning out the hopper with electric chisel and jack hammer.
  • Perform and document pre-shift inspections and PM of loader including lubricating, fueling and checking all other fluid levels.  Perform other PM’s as needed.
  • Operate front-end loader to maintain plant feed going to all milling systems, ensuring tank levels are optimized, and mill brightness quality specifications are met.
  • Complete daily paperwork and assist with inventory and reports when needed.
  • Assist shipping department with maintaining truck scales to ensure accurate weighing capabilities.
  • Assist Mill Operators, Packaging Operators and Maintenance as needed or directed.
  • Complete housekeeping required each shift to help keep rock hopper, feed belt and yard clean.  Maintain grading in drive and yard by using loader bucket to clean up minor spills. Maintain housekeeping standards in milling areas.
  • Monitor mill product quality using feedback from Quality department. Make blend adjustments as needed to maintain quality standards.
  • Good team work and communication skills are necessary and required.
  • Must learn to run all process systems to fill in for Mill Operator in the event of any emergency, unplanned absences and/or vacations whenever necessary.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement program.
  • Perform other duties as trained and assigned.
  • Start/stop mills and transfer systems as needed by mill operator
  • Make basic repairs and assist maintenance as qualified.
  • Fill calcium stearate, and stearic acid feeders.  Unload and store raw materials.
  • Complete daily paperwork as needed including: SQC reports, mill shift reports, daily workplace exams, and generating work orders.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  1. Minimum of 3 years experience in industrial/heavy equipment operation.
  2. Must have a strong mechanical aptitude.
  3. Ability to work and act safe.
  4. Must be able to perform mathematical calculations including:  multiplication, addition,percentages (can be accomplished using a calculator or manually).
  5. Must have good communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization.
  6. Ability to read and comprehend safety policy manuals, SOP’s, MSDS, and various production schedules/reports.

Physical Requirements

Works inside and occasionally outside

Exposed to extreme heat and cold, ranging from 20 degrees F to 120 degrees F as well as dust/dirt, noise, vibrations, and humidity for up to 12 hours at a time.

Ability to lift and handle an average of 55 lb. bags in repetitive motion on a daily basis. Shift averages 8-12 hours.

Must use arms to lift and hands and fingers to feel, hold and move product.  Routinely bend, lift, push, pull, climb, kneel, squat, twist body.

Able to climb and descend 19 stairs multiple times a day.

Must be capable of wearing required PPE for entire shift:  Hard hat, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, safety harness/lanyard, gloves, hearing protection etc.

Must be able to climb on/off forklift, loader, and skid steer multiple times a day.

Must be able to shovel 2000lbs of loose rock as needed for housekeeping.
