The mine utility serves as a resource on night shift capable of operating multiple pieces of mining equipment and supporting mine development projects.    Employee is responsible for maintaining compliance with the Mandatory Minimum Standards Required, within his/her sphere of influence.  This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, waste water permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

1.    Must be competent in the safe and efficient operation of the following:
a.    Haul truck into and out of the underground mine to meet production capacities.
b.    Front end loader (6-yard class), both loading trucks underground and feeding the crusher system on the surface.
c.    Ancillary mine operation equipment such as hydraulic excavator/breaker hammer, water truck, skid steer, backhoe, lull, rock breaker, etc.
d.    Crusher system including inspection and clean up – preferred to attend Smoke School and become certified.
e.    Cross trains to operate other mining equipment which may include: drill(s) – track and face, scalers.
f.    Operates at a speed that is reasonable and prudent for the conditions while maintain an efficient level of production.
2.    Conducts workplace examinations and mobile equipment pre-operation checks at the start of the shift for safe conditions and advises Mine Mechanics and/or Mine Supervisor of maintenance problems.
3.    Performs minor repairs as needed.
4.    Recognizes and communicates hazards, deficiencies, and opportunities to appropriate leadership to improve methods for increased efficiency of mine operations and assists in problem solving.
5.    Assists in training of new employees.
6.    Actively participate in continuous improvement program.
7.    Maintain daily housekeeping expectations.
8.    Perform other duties as trained and assigned.

Knowledge / Skills

•    High School Diploma or GED required.  Technical school a plus.
•    1 to 3 years of experience as an equipment operator preferred. Previous underground mine experience beneficial and preferred.
•    Must have basic computer skills in order to be able to view e-mail, use required systems, and complete required online training courses.  
•    Must have a strong mechanical aptitude.
•    Willing and able to work and act safe.
•    Must be able to perform mathematical calculations including multiplication, addition, percentages (can be accomplished using a calculator or manually).
•    Must have good communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization and be able to communicate using a radio.    
•    Ability to read and comprehend safety policy manuals, SOP’s, SDS, and various production schedules/reports.
•    Would be helpful (though not required) to be on the Mine Rescue Team.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions / Environment

Works throughout the underground and surface areas. Previous underground experience preferred.
Exposed to inclement weather – heat, cold, dark, noise, fumes, vibrations, moving equipment, grease, oil, and generally dusty conditions.
Drives/operates heavy equipment on uneven/bumpy terrain in a dark, confined, underground mine environment. Uneven surface will likely cause full body vibration.
Must be able to climb on/off forklift, loader, and skid steer multiple times a day.
Lifting up to 50lbs, climbing up and down ladders/stairs, and occasionally works from an elevated platform.
Ability to walk long distances up or down hill in an emergency situation.
Must be capable of wearing required PPE for entire shift: hard hat, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, safety harness/lanyard, gloves, hearing protection, respirator (if needed), etc.
Must be able to don a self-rescuer during time of emergency and/or assist other in the same.
