Position Summary

Palletizer Operators will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the automatic palletizer and related equipment with adherence to all company procedures and customer expectations and helping to maintaining a showcase facility at all times.

Must be able to work night shift, weekends and overtime as needed.

Shift is Wed-Sat, 4p-2a

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Obtain packaging instructions including product, quantity, lot number, and relevant packaging configurations. Review the instructions and labels for accuracy
  • Operate automatic palletizer with strict adherence to company procedures/customer expectations.
  • Safely operate forklift and other mobile equipment as applicable.
  • Completes pre-shift inspections and documentation.
  • Perform preventive maintenance as needed or directed.
  • Complete daily paperwork requirements which includes operation of the bar code scanner and correctly attaching bar code labels to pallets.
  • Assess relevant goods (i.e. bags, pallets, etc.) and report problems.
  • Assist maintenance functions as needed or directed.
  • Assist utility operators as needed or directed if appropriately cross trained.
  • Assist packaging operators as needed or directed. Packaging responsibilities can occupy as much as 50% of the Palletizer’s time as a normal and regular part of the job. 
  • Performs necessary housekeeping functions (clean up could involve using a broom and shovel).
  • Quality improvement initiatives.
  • Relief duties as directed and trained.
  • Other:
    • Safety & environmental compliance, involvement, etc.
    • May become involved in computer applications such as Oracle through cross training.
    • Cross-functional, but dedicated to specific functions.
    • Must be able to work as part of a team.
    • May perform other duties as required.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years industrial experience or technical school equivalent preferred.
  • Willing and able to work and act safely (laboratory and plant practices).
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations that include the following: multiplication, addition, division, subtraction, and percentages – all of which can be accomplished with the use of a calculator if needed.
  • Must have good overall communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand and speak the English language and must comprehend company safety manual policies, operating procedures, MSDS, and various production schedules/reports.
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Technican school is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Exposed to heat, cold, dust/dirt, noise, vibrations, humidity and moving equipment for 8–12 hr shifts.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lb bags, up to 30 times per shift or up to 21 tons per shift when working in packaging.
  • Must be able to climb and descend 12 steps up to 20 times per day
  • Must be able to sweep from under machinery, and shovel up to 4000 lbs per day into dumpster
  • Must be able to get off or on forklift up to 100 times per day.
  • Must be able to sit in chair and place empty bags on spout up to 3600 times in a shift.
  • Must be able to kneel, squat, use hands and fingers to feel repeatedly.
  • Must be capable of wearing required PPE for entire shift: Hard hat, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, safety harnesses/lanyards, hearing protection, gloves etc.
  • Must be able to operate equipment at a speed that is reasonable and prudent for the conditions while maintaining an efficient level of production.
