Position Summary

Supervises four teams (one at a time – straight night shift employees and rotating shift employees) of approximately 6 - 12 mill operators and baggers on second shift as well as associated functions (quality, shipping, maintenance) and oversee as needed 6 second shift mine employees to meet customers’ requirements and to support plant/mine business strategies, inventory issues, operating initiatives, and financial objectives.   Ensures that a safe and productive environment is maintained.  As appropriate, monitors air and water discharges from site to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations and monitors process operations for evidence of excessive use of fuel, water and other natural resources.
 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for completing any necessary documentation to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.  Responsible for knowledge of the basics of the regulations and laws effecting assigned work areas and working to help ensure that all regulations and laws are followed.  Responsible for bringing all EH&S incidents or concerns to management for resolution.

•    Ensures that all employees are following Huber work standards and policies and are adequately trained in their roles.
•    Maintains efficient operations in the plant/production/mine area on 2nd shift by ensuring that shift instructions are followed by all employees.  Makes changes in scheduling or job functions when necessary to meet customer/production needs or in response to staffing issues and reports (verbally or in writing) to the Packaging/Shipping/Quality Manager, Production Manager and/or Plant Manager regarding important issues.
•    Implements dust control procedures on plant sight.
•    Assures that housekeeping is maintained in all working areas by directing the employees in the completion of these duties.
•    Ensures production area’s compliance with applicable health, safety and environmental regulations by overseeing activities on 2nd shift including conducting safety meetings.
•    Promotes Huber vision, principles and the desired culture by developing the skills and leadership competencies of production area staff and by creating a working environment that fosters motivation.  Will project a positive image to all employees.
    Conducts daily plant inspections for leaks, safety hazards, housekeeping issues and any related maintenance items.  Report these findings to maintenance in the form of work orders.
    Maintains accurate records or employees’ time and ensures that appropriate documentation is completed and employees are following Huber policies and guidelines at all times.
    Responsible for completion of employee performance evaluations for 2nd shift employees and gives feedback to Packaging/Shipping/Quality Manager, Production Manager and/or Plant Manager relating to rotating shift employees and issues appropriate disciplinary action as necessary.
    Identify and drive productivity improvement and efficiencies and must possess strong problem solving skills.
    May have other accountabilities and will perform other duties as assigned.
Major Challenges:  
•    Balances available production resources with customer requirements, and setting appropriate priorities on 2nd shift as necessary.
•    Develops and maintains competent, motivated employees during shift while keeping track of and maintaining all production and packaging needs.
•    Coordinates maintenance and repair of equipment with a minimum of down time.
•    Maintains a “showcase” appearance of the plant and understands that housekeeping and safety are related.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

Competencies:  
•    Bachelor’s Degree required (Business, Engineering (Mechanical/Industrial), Manufacturing or similar) or combination of education and experience.  Minimum 5 + years’ experience in a production/manufacturing/mining environment or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of leadership/supervisory experience.  Must be able to lead/direct work teams.
•    Must have computer knowledge with basic data entry experience – Microsoft Office (word, excel, etc).  
•    Must be able to acquire complete knowledge of production process and production capabilities with thorough knowledge of equipment.
•    Must be able to acquire general knowledge of MSHA regulations and ability to convey/teach/train employees under direct supervision to follow these regulations.  MSHA background preferred.
•    Must be able to acquire working knowledge of all processing equipment, such as baggers, roller mills, ball mills, screening systems, surface treatment systems, pneumatic blowers, conveyors, elevators, electronic programmable controllers, and computer operation. 
•    Demonstrated ability to organize time and priorities to effectively handle multiple functions to maintain production and assure that equipment is operating efficiently.  Must be able to work without direct supervision.
•    Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to read, write, speak and understand English and be able to communicate well with subordinates, Management, vendors, etc.
•    Must be willing to become First aid and CPR certified 
•    Must be willing and able to attend training courses as defined by Management and light travel occasionally for training or to visit other plant sites.
 

Working Conditions

•    Works inside and outside exposed to several elements on evening/night shift.  Will require some weekends on a rotating basis.
•    May require standing for 75% of the time.  Ability to ascend and descend stairs and ladders in a safe manner.
•    Ability to lift and move 50 pounds at a time.  Must lift, move, kneel, stoop, crouch and crawl.
•    Must be alert and be able to react quickly to safety related situations to assist self and others in emergency situations.  Must notify appropriate personnel (Packaging/Shipping/Quality Manager, Plant Manager, EHS Manager) in the event of an emergency or should an out of the ordinary situation arise that may require immediate attention.
