Position Summary

Ultimately responsible for customer satisfaction from product performance for Marble Hill, GA operation within the Huber Specialty Mineral Business Unit.  The Quality Manager owns the product quality and drives the initiatives that improve product performance, repeatability, and consistency.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise / manage approximately 5 non-exempt salaried.
  • Manage purchasing activities and inventory of lab supplies to meet site QC needs.
  • Responsible for resolving specific customer complaints.
  • Act or provide oversight of key liaison between Plant and Customers during quality issues.
  • Monitor and recommend changes to quality systems based on process, product, or customer requests.
  • Review and maintain Quality Management Systems (QMS) at each site for optimization and utility, standardize systems where applicable.
  • Communicate quality objectives and performance to plant management for decisions regarding process / product improvements.
  • Maintain ISO 9001 certification and compliance.
  • In coordination with Technology, evaluate and approve new raw materials and specifications.
  • Promote the use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts at the sites.  Train personnel to use the charts and how to react to process changes before product is rejected.
  • Meet customer needs by working with other HEM departments (Technology, Sales, Technical Service, Purchasing and Operations) to resolve customer problems, analyze competitors’ and vendors’ products and capabilities, and run laboratory and production trials.
  • Ensure problem resolution, minimization of losses, downtime mitigation, and product consistency by monitoring QC test accuracy of samples and timely reporting to Operations.
  • Monitor incoming raw materials and alert Plant Management when a characteristic shift has occurred.
  • Maintain master copy of product specifications and customer information in central database.
  • Minimize waste by ensuring QC Hold material is monitored and recycled back into production.  Assist Production Managers in achieving their site goals at each month-end-close.
  • Coordinate and/or participate in quality initiatives with other Huber facilities.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and influence verbally and in writing with customers and contractors, especially other company personnel at all levels of the organization.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • 5+ years of mineral processing and/or light manufacturing experience.
  • Training in a technical field, such as chemistry, engineering, or mathematics.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Full understanding of operations from the delivered feedstock through the plant process, packaging, shipping, and customer service.
  • Broad experience with typical laboratory testing equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of customer preferences and expectations.
  • Manages different and often conflicting objectives, projects, and activities at one time.
  • Demonstrates a level of listening skill such that customer and/or employee needs, issues, problems, etc. are heard, addressed, and resolved.
  • Motivates others to achieve challenging objectives through effective use of goal setting, high expectations, development activities, etc.
  • Responsible for procedure reviews, ISO procedures and updates.  Ensures that semi-annual or annual internal and surveillance audits are completed and reports audit results to all departments and management.
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Improve the quality assurance system by directing and coordinating the activities of the Quality Management System in accordance with the current ISO 9001 Standards.
  • Acquires and maintains current understanding of ISO 9001 standards and ability to translate to specific Plant objectives.
