Position Summary

To service SFNR client’s natural resource valuation and other consulting needs. This will be accomplished by leading projects focusing on timberland appraisals and non-appraisal consulting assignments.  Assist other SFNR staff with projects as needed.  

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Conduct or oversee all aspects of producing an appraisal including research, analysis, and report writing.  

  1. Oversee or assist with natural resource consulting assignments.  

  1. Travel domestically for assignments and potentially internationally.  

  1. Effectively collaborate with SFNR and HRC staff to meet client needs.  

  1. Prepare small to medium sized proposals and prepare budgets, collaborating with team members where necessary.  

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  1. Stay current with appraisal rules and regulations, both in the US and in foreign geographies where we work and ensure that appraisals and reports continue to meet these standards.  

  1. Stay current with International Financial Reporting Standards, if required, to ensure that offshore forest valuation work comports with those standards.  

  1. Timely communication with HRC accounting staff regarding billing and accounts receivable.  

  1. Maintain licensing (CEUs) as a Certified General Appraiser – in the State of principal residence, and practically in multiple other states.  

  1. Maintain collaborative relationships with brokers and other industry participants.  

  1. Maintain collaborative relationships with friendly forestry consulting competitors.  

Competencies

  1. Individual should be thoroughly knowledgeable in forestry consulting technical services, particularly real estate appraisal, forest valuation, and acquisition due diligence. Must have a sufficient understanding of forest inventory (principles, design, execution), GIS, supply and market studies to develop, review, and submit reports describing these disciplines.   

  1. Should have advance skills in using spreadsheets and be proficient with word processing software. Working knowledge of GIS.  

  1. Individual should have a minimum B.S. degree in Forestry, preferably including forest management, economics, and business, or a related field. Advanced degree such as MSF, MF, or MBA is a plus. At least 5 years related work experience as a certified general real estate appraiser.  

  1.
