Position Summary

The Area Manager will provide guidance and technical direction for Biogum production in various areas of the operation. This position is responsible for establishing and meeting production schedules, standardization of process operations, reduction of costs, maintenance of equipment and facilities, troubleshooting, team development and the safety of all area team members.

Responsibilities

To identify and implement process improvements that result in higher throughput, improved efficiencies, recognizable cost savings and more consistent product quality. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the fundamental functions and responsibilities of the job as defined below:

  • Directs the daily activities of the assigned area through verbal and written instructions to Engineers, Production Supervisors, Warehouse Supervisors and Operators.
  • Utilizes technical background and experience to implement changes to the process, equipment or procedures leading to improved rates, operating efficiencies, and product quality.
  • Provides the production leadership on the Production Team and is involved with plant productivity improvement teams.
  • Responsible for safe operation of production equipment, assures that the area operates within Good Manufacturing Practices and ISO standards; assures that good housekeeping standards are established and maintained.
  • Responsible for the resolution of operating problems and process upsets. Utilizes line management and technical staff to restore processing to expected performance levels. Works with Quality Control and other teams in resolving product quality problems. Establishes priorities and directs the efforts of the manufacturing teams toward accomplishing the cost reduction objectives of the Plant.
  • Operates in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies. Keeps up to date on all regulations governing the quality of products, Good Manufacturing Procedures, the condition of the work area and process equipment and the effect upon the environment of discharges from various processes. Works with the Plant Engineers, Quality Control Manager and Environmental Manager in preparing responses to requests from the regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for protecting all proprietary information and property against loss of any kind. This includes, but is not limited to, confidential reports and memos, process and product knowledge, equipment, and research methodology.
  • Responsibilities may include additional assignments such as special cost studies, analysis of work assignments, college recruiting, interviewing of potential employees and planning both short and long range for the effective use of personnel and equipment. Reviews and/or initiates process, and equipment changes under management of change procedures.
  • Works with business teams as required to provide manufacturing input into marketing and general business decisions involving manufacturing
  • Participates in special assignments as requested such as conducting cost studies, planning for short- and long-range use of equipment and personnel, and assisting other areas of the Plant in troubleshooting operating problems. The depth of the job is such that effective communications must be maintained with management in order that deviations, trends, and problems can be anticipated, and a response developed.
  • Responsible for providing after hours support as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or Microbiology
  • Other Engineering degrees will be considered with demonstrated chemical manufacturing experience.
  • 10 years technical experience.
  • 5 years production management and supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of FDA, OSHA, and EPA regulations
  • Working knowledge of GMP and HAACP
  • Ability to effectively communicate (written, verbal, presentation skills) at multiple levels
  • Proven experience in creating a culture of accountability and creating a high-performance culture
  • Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
