Position Summary

Working under the general direction of the EHS&S Manager, the Environmental Specialist will develop, implement, and maintain strategies, programs, and initiatives that ensure a environmentally responsible and sustainable workplace at the Okmulgee Plant. The Environmental Specialist will collaborate with various departments and stakeholders to promote compliance with regulations and enhance the overall well-being of employees, the environment, and the community. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The Environmental Specialist role will assess, manage, and mitigate the environmental impact of various projects, developments, and activities. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the fundamental functions and responsibilities of the job as defined below:
•    Support the environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) management system and the J.M. Huber Corporation EH&S Policy.
•    Maintain environmental compliance plans (EHS 200) and systems. 
•    Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure appropriate environmental programs and procedures are in place.  
•    Ensure that the Okmulgee plant meets and exceeds all federal and state environmental standards & regulations and requirements, including CAA, CWA, CERCLA, stormwater, SARA Title 3, emissions inventory, and Toxic Release Inventory.
•    Ensure timely submission of all required monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, annual recordkeeping to maintain permit compliance. 
•    Monitor air, water, soil, and other environmental parameters to detect pollution and potential hazards.
•    Coordinates development and maintenance of hazardous materials tracking systems.
•    Drives the zero waste to landfill sustainability effort.
•    Analyze environmental data and prepare reports to document findings and make recommendations for improvement.
•    Partner with operations, plant personnel, and contractors to correct and improve environmental performance through scheduled routine audits.
•    Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, government agencies, environmental organizations, and other stakeholders to address environmental issues and achieve common goals. 
•    Assist organization in obtaining necessary permits and approvals for environmentally sensitive projects.
•    Provide environmental analysis of new processes, procedures, equipment, engineering guidelines and standards review, and all major engineering activities/projects.  
•    Stay up to date with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
•    Assist with regulatory inspections with the city, state, and federal agencies.  Support EHS Manager in the follow up on all recommendations, incidents, and variances. 
•    Routinely consults with CP Kelco Legal and Corporate Environmental in the performance of duties, which include the investigation of new regulations and procedures to comply with these regulations.
•    Drive environmental cultural change focused on a proactive, process improvement approach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field. An advanced degree and/or recognized EHS certification or documented training (e.g. PE, CIH, CSP, etc.) is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience in environmental, production, and/or related career. Strong preference to experience within a chemical manufacturing/processing environment, with a heavy focus on Wastewater and Air Permitting and management systems.
  • Professional industrial/distribution experience with Title V and NPDES is a plus.
