Position Summary
As the Junior Buyer you will be responsible for facilitating the procurement and distribution of company equipment, supplies and services. Candidates for this position need a knowledge of purchasing procedures and policies. This position requires considerable contact with various company personnel, vendors and business representatives.
Responsibilities
- Ensures data accuracy through scheduled audits and reporting
- Properly maintain master data for purchasing and inventory but not limited to vendor master, material information records, source lists and MRP.
- Analyze price and consumption data to accurately report tending and optimize inventory settings.
- Actively engage in learning MRO BOM and usage to material data accuracy.
- Enforcing master data requirements with suppliers, and holding other departments accountable for accurate data.
- Actively manage Material Master and data governance activities, such as daily maintenance requests as well as data clean up efforts.
- Facilitate problem solving and develop action plans to address performance issues and achieve key performance indicator goals
- Cooperate in the implementing of departmental programs, objectives and policies consistent with company practices and objectives under the direction and supervision of purchasing group leader
- Emphasis is always placed upon adherence to sound principles of economic buying, while still satisfying management and other department in the process
- Assume responsibility for establish and maintaining beneficial company relationships with multiple source vendors who can meet our requirements regarding price, quality, delivery and reliability
- Informs others concerning actual and/or potential suppliers; investigates and visits vendors’ facilities and remains up-to-date on new materials, equipment and developments as is deemed advisable
- Insures that vendor representatives receive fair and impartial reception and treatment
- Arranges and attends meeting between vendor representatives and company personnel
- Collaborates with plant personnel to obtain lowest costs on purchase items by modification and/or standardization of specifications, better ordering techniques, increased cash discounts, better terms, lead time, etc.
- Encourages broad interest and activity in profit and/or product improvement
- Keeps informed with respect to market changes and supply conditions, keeping all interested parties advised regarding market trends of supply, prices and delivery as changes occur
- Recommends when it would be advantageous to go either long or short of a commodity in respect to normal commitment practice
- Responsible for all phases of purchase, including follow-up and delivery, as is consistent with good judgment
- Prepares and issues purchase orders based on properly approved purchase requisitions as provided by the requisition approval chart as authority to do so is delegated
- Maintains listing of approved vendors and records of purchases, prices and terms of purchases
- Expedite orders when required
- Serve as a backup to the purchasing manager backup when the manager is out of the office, traveling or unavailable
- Assist purchasing manager with capital project responsibilities
- May be required to meet with vendors away from normal place of business

Requirements
- B.A. or B.S. degree is preferred but will accept Associates Degree
- Knowledge of MRO stations, parts and inventory.
- Exposure to the business functions of a manufacturing enterprise from operations, finance, supply chain or business analysis perspective.
- Strong Microsoft Excel, data extraction and analysis and IT technical skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate (written, verbal, presentation skills) at multiple levels
- Attention to detail and accuracy; strong critical self review skills.
- Self motivated, flexible, with the ability to deal with high levels of complexity, change and evolving processes, often on short notice.
- Proven experience in creating a culture of accountability and creating a high performance culture
- Demonstrated team building, leadership, employee development and conflict resolution skills
- Continuous improvement experience
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute effectively
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under various deadlines
- Strong customer service skills
- Six Sigma or lean manufacturing experience is preferred
- Working knowledge and experience with larger ERP (SAP) MRP systems
- Demonstrated leadership in driving a high personal safety culture
