Position Summary
As the Project Control Engineer, you will design, install, maintain, support, and improve site process automation systems. This position will serve as a key technical resource to lead and support plant optimization efforts regarding capacity, cost, quality, and environmental improvements utilizing process control techniques. Key job responsibilities include design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of site automation systems along with continuous improvement activities including system conversions and upgrades. Candidates for this position need a fundamental knowledge of control systems and plant instrumentation.
You will also work with site operations and engineers to determine process control requirements and implement these requirements with the process control systems. Work consists of both project work and maintenance support, including on-call responsibility. Project activities include development, design, installation, configuration and testing for site automation systems. To identify and implement process improvements which result in higher throughput, improved efficiencies, recognizable cost savings and more consistent product quality. The job will also involve the design, construction, and start-up of capital projects to support these improvements where necessary.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement process controls and automation projects involving automation systems and PC network technologies (DeltaV ,PLC, PI).
- Optimize and automate plant controls via automation techniques (loop tuning) and Advanced Process Control applications with a focus on improving facility cost-effectiveness and plant production capacity.
- Position is required to work with plant management, engineers, maintenance and contractors and to provide expert guidance; leadership and assistance to facility Control System Specialists (upgrade projects, troubleshooting, etc.)
- Monitor the facility’s DCS operations and performance, provide technical support and troubleshooting and facilitate the development of programs for improvement.
- Oversee the field construction, verification of proper installation, performance of loop checks and the oversight of final commissioning of DCS/PLC equipment associated with maintenance or capital projects.
- Communicate and maintain proper documentation related to the DCS system status, changes, and coordinate/conduct personnel training for such related items as necessary.
- Review facility instrument maintenance activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to all specifications, codes, and standards.
- Coordinate the development of controls for new processes and products and ensure these are transferred to manufacturing with a fully functional control system.
- Provide process control design and support during all lifecycle phases of process improvement teams and capital projects.
- Provide support for data and information management processes using PI, DCS, PLC, and SAP, along with Excel and others.
- Develop advanced/regulatory application programs to control and optimize various chemical processes in a safe and cost-effective manner
- Design, review and modify regulatory and advanced regulatory control loops.
- Analyze repairs and maintenance requirements for control system components to proactively address system weaknesses.
- Provide technical support for process safety efforts, such as Process Hazard Assessment (PHA) and Management of Change (MOC).
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Computer, Chemical) or equivalent technical discipline is required and 3+ years experience with Delta V.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, draw conclusions and then develop and execute problem solutions
- Demonstrated high level of integrity, thoroughness, creativity, flexibility, initiative, and productive, collaborative teamwork is a must
- Experience with DeltaV, SIS, AB PLCs, and PI Vision is desirable
- In the field troubleshooting skills for hardwired, wiring, & instrumentation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal communication skills are necessary
- Ability to independently direct & prioritize one’s own work.

- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under various deadlines
- Delta V hardware, programming, & troubleshooting experience
- Experience with batch processes
- Working knowledge of SAP is preferred
- Experience reading and designing P&ID drawings and loop/wiring schematics is preferred
- Experience specifying and selecting process instruments.
- Experience with MOCs and PHA revalidations in a PSM facility
