Position Summary

As the Controls Specialist you will install, maintain, support, and improve site process automation systems. Key job responsibilities include installation, commissioning, and maintenance of site automation systems along with continuous improvement activities including system conversions and upgrades. Candidates for this position need a fundamental knowledge of electrical systems and plant instrumentation.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

· Develops industrial control system solutions including Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programs to address operational needs for new construction projects, maintenance projects or operational requests.

· Ensure compliance with company Cybersecurity efforts through evaluation, configuration and deployment of secure solutions for Operation Technology (OT) devices

· Monitor KPI's for controls equipment, e.g. alarm system metrics, control loop performance, advanced control utilization, etc. and initiate corrective actions as necessary

· Optimize and automate plant controls with focus on improving facility cost-effectiveness and plant production capacity.

· Maintain and catalog accurate backups for all automation devices.

· Keep electrical/instrumentation schematics updated.

· Assist maintenance by reviewing program logic to identify field device issues.

· Performs highly skilled electrical duties including troubleshooting, repairing electrical systems, and wiring/installation of new equipment.

· Oversee the field construction, verification of proper installation, performance of loop checks and the oversight of final commissioning of PLC equipment associated with maintenance or capital projects.

· Act as a liaison between engineering and electrical contractors.

· Ensures effective communication and collaboration with relevant departments to minimize downtime and maintain production requirements.

· Provide technical support for process safety efforts, such as Process Hazard Assessment (PHA) and Management of Change (MOC).

· Subject Matter Expert (SME) for electrical controls, electrical safety, automation systems, and industrial instrumentation devices.

· Must provide on-call and off-hour coverage.

· Support other HSM sites both remotely and in person. (The travel required will be approximately 5%).

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • Associates degree required. (A bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.)
  • 5-10 years of experience with industrial control systems
  • Excellent analytical skills - Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, draw conclusions and then develop and execute problem solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to operate multimeter, oscilloscope, megger and other related electrical test equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic principles.
  • This role will require the qualified individual to be self-sufficient and actively visible within the plant.
  • Familiarity with commissioning, optimizing, and maintaining variable frequency drives.
  • Knowledge and experience with the following devices and software:
  • Industrial Controls Software - FactoryTalk View Studio, RSView32, Panelbuilder32, RSLogix5000, Studio5000, Connected components workbench, KEPServerEX, and RSLinx
  • Programmable Logic Controllers – ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix, PLC5, SLC500
  • Networking devices - Cisco and Stratix switches
  • Server software - Active directory
  • Databases - OSI Pi
  • Windows software – AutoCAD, Visio, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word

Any offered salary is determined based on relevant factors such as an applicant's skills, performance, job responsibilities, prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications and market considerations.

 

U.S. Market-Based Salary Range

Controls Specialist

[$71,000.00 - $92,000.00]

 

In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing payout.
