Position Summary
Master Multicraft Operator is a combined skills of a Packaging Plant Operator with that of a Multicraft-Maintenance Technician. This individual will operate and maintain the equipment they are assigned to operate. In addition, they will be responsible for other electrical and mechanical installation and repair work in the Roller Mill and Central Packaging Departments. Responsible for following the Plant Production/Shipment Schedule and ensuring the packaged product meets plant order requirements and product falls within the specifications outlined in the Production Sampling and Lab Testing Guidelines – DP409001. Perform highly skilled tasks to construct, repair and maintain plant equipment, buildings and related structures.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Receives instruction from Packaging/Roller Mill Coordinator and/or Lead Person as to the amount and type of product to be packaged as outlined by the daily work order sheets.
- Performs start up of palletizing and packing equipment.
- Visually inspects equipment throughout the shift.
- Performs necessary adjustments and changes such as:
- Sends samples of packaging product to Lab as required.
- Frequently operates forklift.
- Dumps non-conforming product, restocks product, and codes bags as needed.
- Performs recommended preventative maintenance.
- Prepares required daily packaging reports and logs.
- Fills out paperwork such as: plant orders, sample tags, forklift inspection reports, etc.
- Diagnoses and corrects facility operations problems with assistance of Packaging Complex Coordinator and Maintenance personnel.
- Directs, assists, and performs duties of other Packaging Plant personnel as needed.
- Knowledgeable of the ISO quality system as required to ensure compliance to the ISO 9001 quality standard.
- Follows FSMA guidelines in the daily production of product.
- Performs the duties of a Maintenance Electrician and Mechanic while using the following tools; welding equipment, voltmeters, mechanical equipment, amp probes, micrometers, and various other portable and handheld tools This includes but not limited to the following:
- Performs the duties of an instrumentation technician..
- As duties permit, and as assigned, performs other less skilled electrical maintenance duties such as:
- Install and wire motors.
- Run conduit, wire ways, and electrical cable.
- Install switches, lights, and receptacles.
- Installs 110/220 volt distribution centers.
- Analyze and perform preventive maintenance.
- Performs highly skilled electrical maintenance tasks. This includes but not limited to the following:
- Distributes secondary power (480 volts) and installs related equipment.
- Installation of three phase, single phase, AC/DC circuits and equipment.
- Electric motor maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Install and maintain motor controls (starters, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, and controlling devices).
- Major troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment to include diagnosing PLC discrete and analog inputs and outputs.
- Has a thorough knowledge of each unique mill unit and packaging system and its operation and has the ability to start up, run and explain material flow of product through these units.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Technical school electrical certificate required..
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years industrial experience and/or technical school equivalent or a combination of education and experience.
- Willing and able to work and act safely (laboratory and plant practices).
- Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations that include the following: multiplication, addition, and percentages – all of which can be accomplished with the use of a calculator if needed.
- Must have good overall communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Must be able to read and comprehend company safety manual policies, operating procedures, SDS, and various production schedules/reports.
