Position Summary

Operate mine equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Huber Sustainability Management Standard requirements, within their sphere of influence. This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, wastewater permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements.  This position is on a 12 hour rotating schedule, day shift only. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

•    Safe and efficient operation (driving) of 45-ton haul truck by making approximately 25 trips per day into and out of the underground mine (depending on haul distance and down time) to remove and dump tons of marble/rock.  
•    Must have basic knowledge of crushing system – be able to start/stop the system.
•    Ensures that mine equipment is in good operating condition, making minor repairs as needed.
•    Inspects work areas at start of shift for safe conditions and advises Maintenance and/or Mine Manager of maintenance problems and performs minor repairs as needed.
•    Proficiently operates other mine equipment which may include a skid loader, backhoe, front end loader and haul trucks.
•    Properly records fuel use for equipment.
•    Recommends to Mine Manager measures to improve methods for increased efficiency of mine operations and assists in problem solving in all areas of the mine.
•    Cleans around crusher area at the end of each shift.
•    Assists in training of new employees and will perform other duties as assigned.

 

Major Challenges:  
•    Works throughout underground and surface areas. 
•    Exposed to inclement weather, heat, cold, noise, vibrations, grease, oil and generally dusty conditions.
•    Walking on uneven and rough terrain, including mud, water and slopes where footing may be impaired.
•    Communicating with other employees in high noise environments over the radio and in person.
•    Drives/Operates heavy equipment on uneven/bumpy terrain, in a dark, confined underground mine environment.  Operates at a speed that is reasonable and prudent for the conditions while maintaining an efficient level of production.
•    Lifting, climbing, and occasionally works from an elevated platform.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Technical school a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years industry experience or technical mining school equivalent.
  • Must be computer literate – basic skills including signing onto and off of computer to check Huber e-mail frequently/routinely and to take online safety classes (SkillSoft-type classes).
  • Work and act safely (laboratory and plant practices). Must be alert and able to react and respond quickly to safety related situations to assist self and others in emergency situations.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds to perform required duties.
  • Must be able to don a self-rescuer during time of emergency and/or assist others in the same.
  • Using hand tools to perform strenuous manual labor such as shoveling, sweeping and maintenance for up to 30-minutes without stopping including climbing on stairs, ladders and walkways, working on
  • elevated platforms and complete manual labor in low light conditions.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to perform mathematical calculations which include the following: multiplication, addition, percentages (can be accomplished with the use of a calculator or manually computed).
  • Must have good overall communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization and be able to communicate using a radio.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend company safety manual policies, SOP’s, SDS, and various production schedules/ reports.

Any offered salary is determined based on relevant factors such as an applicant's skills, performance, job responsibilities, prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications and market considerations.

 

U.S. Market-Based Salary Range

[$25.06 - $27.57]

 

In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing payout.
