Position Summary

Performs highly skilled tasks to construct, repair, and maintain plant equipment, buildings, and related structures.

Potentially Significant EH&S Impact(s): Respond to breakdowns in environmental control equipment. Deal with spills and handle universal waste properly.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Huber Sustainability Management Standard requirements, within their sphere of influence. This may include compliance with any air permits, waste water permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements. Responsible for bringing all EH&S incidents or concerns to management for resolution.

 

1. Performs the duties of a maintenance electrician and mechanic while using the following tools; welding equipment, volt meters, mechanical equipment, amp probes, micrometers, and various other portable and handheld tools This includes but not limited to the following:

  • Repair and replace gear boxes.
  • Major fabrication.
  • Highly skilled welding, cutting and brazing (TIG/MIG/SWAW).
  • Repair and diagnosis of packaging equipment problems.
  • Variable speed drive and transmission repair.
  • Knowledge of blowers, diverters, baghouses, and other pneumatic conveying equipment.

2. Performs the duties of an instrumentation technician.

  • Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs plant Process Control System hardware and programming.
  • Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a variety of process instrumentation.
  • Communicates and works with engineering and vendor technical reps as needed.

3. Directs the work of contractors who assist with electrical maintenance and installations.

4. Performs calibrations on quality critical instruments and controllers.

5. As duties permit, and as assigned, performs other less skilled electrical maintenance duties such as,

  • Installs and wires motors
  • Runs conduit, wire ways, and electrical cable 
  • Installs switches, lights, and receptacles.
  • Installs 110/220 volt distribution centers
  • Analyze and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Performs equipment and service ground checks annually.

6. Performs highly skilled electrical maintenance tasks. This includes but not limited to the following:

  • Distributes secondary power (480 volts) and installs related equipment.
  • Applications of three phase, single phase, AC/DC circuits.
  • Electric motor maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Installs and maintains motor controls (starters, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, and controlling devices). 
  • Major troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment to include diagnosing PLC discrete and analog inputs and outputs.

7. Possesses an overall knowledge of plant operations.

8. Assists the process operations as necessary. Must be familiar with all unique equipment and their operation.

9. Maintain a clean and safe work area. 

10. Become familiar with the Environmental Management System, policy and procedures, and the potential consequences of departure from specified operating procedures.

11. Knowledgeable of the ISO quality system as required ensuring compliance to the ISO 9001 quality standard.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Technical school certificate (Electrical) required.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years industrial experience and/or technical school equivalent or a combination of education and experience.
  • Willing and able to work and act safely (laboratory and plant practices).
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations that include the following: multiplication, addition, and percentages – all of which can be accomplished with the use of a calculator if needed.
  • Must have good overall communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend company safety manual policies, operating procedures, SDS, and various production schedules/reports.
  • Must be able to lift and move 50 lbs occasionally, must be able to ascend and descend ladders, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and crawl.
  • Must be able to work in a dusty environment where temperatures vary from extremely hot to cold, work in humidity and around various chemicals.
  • Must have valid driver’s license as part pick up is required.

Physical Requirements

Works in a noisy, wet, dusty environment, exposed to ambient conditions. Must be able to ascend and descend vertical and step ladders in order to work at elevated locations. Must be able to step on and off forklift, as well as bulk trucks (by means of an elevated walkway). Routinely exposed to electrical hazards, vibrations, moving machinery/parts. Ability to lift 50 pounds (may use assistance as appropriate). Be available for 24-hour on call duty, being available by cell phone. To perform many jobs must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, crawl or be in otherwise awkward positions to reach necessary areas of machinery. Must be able to hear, speak, and use a handheld radio. Must have peripheral and color vision.
