Position Summary
To support the objectives of the Quincy Packaging Complex through the effective management of all aspects of the operation, including safety, productivity, quality, maintenance, communications, and employee relations.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Mandatory Minimum Standards Required, within his/her sphere of influence. This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, wastewater permits, stormwater permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements. Potentially Significant EH&S Impact(s): Supports and manages environmental and safety performance and compliance. In charge of daily checks on dust collectors and their reporting.
- To meticulously enforce safe work practices within the Quincy Packaging complex. This responsibility will include training on safety policies and work procedures, leadership in creating and sustaining good housekeeping, effective use of personal protective equipment, and leadership in creating and sustaining a predictive safety culture within the team. The incumbent will perform safety policy controller duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.
- To optimize productivity at the Packaging complex. This responsibility will include minimizing all equipment downtime through predictive and preventive maintenance efforts, analyzing and attacking historical causes of downtime, de-bottlenecking existing equipment, and improving maintenance/operational procedures to increase deliverable production capacity.
- To delight all external Packaging Complex customers. This responsibility will include analyzing and correcting the root cause of customer complaints and quality concerns. Responsible for achieving customer satisfaction in package appearance, accuracy of shipment paperwork, and timeliness of shipments. Participates in customer audits as assigned. Trains and leads in the development of the Packaging complex SPC program. Edits, trains, and participates in the ISO quality system as required to assure compliance to the ISO 9002 quality standard.
- Coordinates and supervises the efforts and activities of 21 operations and maintenance employees. Facilitates work team meetings to optimize group participation and consensus decision making. Follows through on team decisions as appropriate. Enforces the rules in the Employee Handbook consistently and firmly within the work group, while holding fast to the Huber Principle of “Respect for People”. Conducts objective performance evaluations of all employees on an annual basis. Communicates with employees on all shifts effectively and routinely. Maintains employee records as necessary.
- Participates in the Plant Steering Team process to set plant policies and goals, then follows through on these plans. Handles special projects that are assigned by the Plant Manager on an “as needed” basis. Cooperates with other plant departments when appropriate to share resources for maximum overall effectiveness.
- Supports new product packaging development activities within the Packaging complex as necessary to support EMD strategies. Supports efforts to satisfy new customers of existing or new products and promotes Huber’s image of being fast and flexible in meeting all agreed-to customer expectations.
- Effectively manages packaging supplies inventory to meet customer demands but, minimize working capital requirements.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- The individual must possess a working knowledge of limestone processing equipment, such as automated bagger systems, automatic palletizers, automatic checkweighers, pneumatic blowers, conveyors, elevators, and electronic programmable controllers.
- The individual must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact within a team to achieve true consensus decision making.
- The individual must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Technical school a plus.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years industrial experience or technical school equivalent or a combination of education and experience.
