Position Summary

A Mill Operator is responsible for ensuring the mill is producing a quality product as specified in the DP409001 “Production Sampling and Testing Guidelines”, as well as loading bulk trucks and railcars. Mill Operator reports to the Production Manager. 3rd Shift Position 11PM - 7AM.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Huber Sustainability Management Standard requirements, within their sphere of influence. This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, waste water permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements.

Potentially Significant EH&S Impact(s): In charge of monitoring their equipment for visible emissions, immediate shut down of equipment with visible emissions and reporting emissions to their Manager. Additionally, report all spills, incidents, and near hits to their Manager, and input into Enablon.

1. The Mill Operator is responsible for the operation of Marblehead Mill 1, Mill 2, and the SB 24 Beneficiation System, using the PLC or performing field operations as required.

2. Record and input data into OEE calculations in the PLC and maintain accurate Production Logs.

3. Conducts daily mill area inspections to identify any unsafe conditions and reports them in Enablon as well as enter a work request when necessary.

4. Operates mills in a safe and efficient manner.

5. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as required and isolate energy sources (lockout/tagout) before beginning repair or maintenance work.

6. Produces and loads materials as established by the production schedule. Obtains in-process, final product, or load out samples on pre-determined intervals DP409001 “Production Sampling and Testing Guidelines” or as specified on the LW403003 “Plant Order Instructions”.

7. Inspects bulk trucks and rail cars before loading and loads per the specified order provided.

8. Prepares required daily operation reports.

9. Advises following shift and maintenance of operating problems and conditions.

10. Follow ISO 9001 guidelines and supports the quality management system.

11. Consults with Maintenance personnel to resolve identified issues and submits work orders as

needed.

12. Notifies Production Supervisor of any problems that will or may impact a confirmed finished

product customer ship date.

13. Consults with QC Lab Technician to assure compliance with quality control specifications.

14. Perform lab testing as required during off-shifts when lab support is unavailable.

15. Maintains and oversees good housekeeping practices of the mill area.

16. May be required to assist Shipping with van truck loading.

17. Must use hand held scanners for bar coding and inventory when needed.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years industrial experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to handle multiple duties at once. Interacts with shippers, truckers, management, and plant personnel all in the same time frame.
  • Must have good computer skills working with Oracle and Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift and maintain forklift certification.
  • Willing and able to work and act safely.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations that include the following: multiplication, addition, and percentages – all of which can be accomplished with the use of a calculator if needed.
  • Must be able to communicate both written and verbally with all levels to include management, peers, vendors, and plant personnel. 
  • Must be able to read and comprehend company safety manual policies, operating procedures, SDSs, and various production schedules / reports.
  • Must be able to lift and move 50 lbs. consistently while packaging, must be able to ascend and descend ladders, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and crawl.
  • Must be able to work in a dusty environment where temperatures vary from extremely hot to cold, work in humidity and around various chemicals. 

Physical Requirements

  • Works inside and outside in all areas of plant, and is often exposed to heat, cold, inclement weather, grease, oil, potential ground product / raw material spillage and dirty working conditions.
  • Has a thorough knowledge of each mill and its operation, the ability to start up, run and explain material flow of product through the mill. Plant milling system equipment is located on multiple levels and requires climbing stairs or stationary ladders to monitor and/or adjust its operation.
  • Must follow and comply with OSHA, IATA & IMDG industrial regulations.

Any offered salary is determined based on relevant factors such as an applicant's skills, performance, job responsibilities, prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications and market considerations.

[$22.52 - $24.78]

 

In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing payout.
