Position Summary

Improve plant capacity and efficiency through process optimization and capital projects.  Process optimization responsibilities will include analyzing existing processes to improve throughput, quality, cost, and efficiency.  Capital project responsibilities will include all aspects of capital project execution from initial scope development through startup and personnel training.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues.
  • Support efforts to meet or exceed Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability, quality, delivery, and cost performance expectations.
  • Responsible for knowledge of basic regulatory requirements and laws affecting assigned work areas and ensures compliance.
  • Support execution of the Huber Sustainability Management System with potential to lead specific elements as a SME.
  • Support customer technical service activities.  Optimize product performance in customers’ applications.  Provide technical consultation services for customers when requested.
  • Identify, evaluate, install, and commission technology for new and modified processes.
  • Support NPD activities with selection of process equipment, process scale-up and plant trials.  Create cost models, determine process capability, and plant capacity to aid in development of business cases.
  • Participate cross-functionally in implementation and installation of capital projects.
  • Provide technical expertise relating to equipment operation and repair.
  • Modify plant process control systems and install field instrumentation to acquire process data and trending for troubleshooting.
  • Implement and manage expense and capital projects.  Prepare project documentation, including  feasibility reports, proof of concept reports, project estimates, scopes of work, EH&S reviews, and capital appropriations requests (CAR).
  • Process development activities to include creation / modification of process flow diagrams, piping & instrument diagrams, equipment specifications, control logic, etc.
  • Facilitate Process Hazards Analysis for existing and new processes.
  • Work in support of customer technical service and new product development.  Duties will include scale-up of processes, analysis of product performance and management of plant trials.
  • Integrate new technology into the site productivity improvement plan (including process control and automation).
  • Work closely with the site leadership team on strategy deployment, change management and capacity management.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • A 4-year Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree at an accredited university with a minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in manufacturing.  Mineral or chemical processing industries preferred.
  • Experience in evaluating existing and designing new processes, making recommendations, and successfully implementing process improvements.
  • Experience in unit operations such as particle size reduction, classification, bulk material handling, pneumatic conveying, powder drying and processing.
  • Experience working with PiSoft and OEE is a plus.
  • Must work well without direct or constant supervision and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, facilitation, and project management skills. 
  • Must be a capable leader and an effective change agent in all levels and functions of the local organization.  Able to influence the local organization, from the shop floor to management.
  • Self-motivated, data driven, scientific problem solver and the ability to make independent and informed decisions
  • Strong communication and computer skills are necessary.  Must be able to use Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in developing PFD’s, P&ID’s, and mass & energy balances.  
  • AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • PLC programming knowledge is a plus.
