Position Summary
The Production Manager supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in all phases of a plant operation. The scope includes leadership and direction to achieve expected results in the areas of safety, quality, efficiency, cost control, and customer service. The Production Manager will be responsible for identifying and implementing corrective actions to drive continuous improvement in performance and productivity.The production Manager also leads and manages the plant production area to meet internal customers’ requirements and to support HEM.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides direction, development and leadership to Supervisors and production staff
- Sets goals and provides frequent coaching to direct reports to improve performance of team
- Hires production team employees and evaluates performance
- Assists in the development of key metrics to monitor overall plant performance
- Minimizes unplanned downtime through an effective preventative maintenance program
- Manages plant-wide maintenance activities including contractors
- Ensures compliance with all company policies and/or federal, state and local regulations
- Controls and minimizes labor overtime, premium freight, and repair costs
- Assists in the development of the annual budget and investigates variances
- Ensures accurate product inventories are maintained
- Maintains plant organization and cleanliness
- Adheres to all QMS procedures in accordance with ISO standards
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Decision Making Authority
- Coordinates and supervises work activities within plant/production area.
- Directs and coordinates contractor activities.
- Recommends accepting/declining business based upon plant/production area capability.
- Authorizes purchase of materials/supplies, equipment requests, and repairs.
- Recommends hiring and performance decisions for HEM employees.
- Work with HR Manager and Plant Manager in decisions relative to headcount needs, plant/production area workflow, training, and first line disciplinary issues.
- Sets policies and procedures for plant/production area relating to quality, safety, and production.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- High school diploma; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Three years of management experience in mining, manufacturing, or other relevant industry
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Office
- OSHA General Industry; MSHA knowledge preferred
- Valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements
Work is performed primarily in an office and/or a production environment. Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop and climb up to 70 feet. Able to lift, pull, push and carry up to 55 lbs. Manual dexterity required for operation of a computer keyboard. Vision and a sense of hearing are also required. Occasional domestic travel may be required.
