Position Summary

A Roller Mill Operator is responsible for ensuring a mill is producing a quality product as specified in the DP409001 “Production Sampling and Testing Guidelines”. Operator reports to the Packaging Complex Coordinator.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Huber Sustainability Management Standard requirements, within their sphere of influence.  This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, wastewater permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements.

Potentially Significant EH&S Impact(s): In charge of monitoring their equipment for visible emissions, shutting down equipment with visible emissions and reporting emissions to their area coordinator. Deal with petroleum spills properly.

  • The Roller Mill Operator operates several mill units per shift (Mills 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9 and 10).
  • Notifies Area Coordinator of any major production problems that will/may require major downtime (more than 2 hours).
  • Inspects mill area(s) for unsafe conditions daily.
  • Operates mills in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs preventative maintenance servicing of equipment as required. Ensures Cardinal Rules are followed as required.
  • Produces and loads materials as established by the daily railcar and bulk truck orders provided by the Scalehouse and open work order report located on the Dashboard.
  • Obtains in-process, final product, or load out samples on pre-determined intervals DP409001 “Production Sampling and Testing Guidelines” or as specified on the LW403003 “Plant Order Instructions”.
  • Inspects trucks and rail cars before loading.
  • Completes required daily operation reports. (Workplace Exams, Form A’s, Form B’s etc.)
  • May direct one or more personnel in the packaging process. The operator may be required to perform packaging duties based upon location or under direction of the Packaging/Roller Mill Coordinator.
  • Communicates with succeeding Mill Operator(s), coordinator, and maintenance of operating problems and conditions.
  • Employees must learn and observe all applicable company policies and safe practices and perform all duties assigned by supervisor. This description covers the significant duties of the job but may not include occasional assignments which would be within the evaluation of this job.
  • Knowledgeable of the ISO quality system as required to ensure compliance to the ISO 9001 quality standard.
  • Follows FSMA guidelines in the daily production of product.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years Operator experience preferred.
  • Willing and able to work and act safely (laboratory and plant practices).
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations that include the following: multiplication, addition, and percentages – all of which can be accomplished with the use of a calculator if needed.
  • Must have good overall communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • CDL license preferred.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow safety policy manuals, MSHA regulations, SOP’s, SDS, and various production schedules/reports.
  • MSHA required training will follow Quincy’s Part 48 Training Plan including New Miner training and annual refresher. Prior MSHA training will be acceptable if proper documentation can be produced.

Physical Requirements

  • Shifts are 12 hours.
  • Works in all inside and outside areas of the plant and is exposed to heat, cold, inclement weather, noise, vibrations, grease, oil, crushed and ground limestone spillage and somewhat dirty conditions.
  • Requires ability to climb stationary ladders up to at least 60’.
  • Must be able to repetitively lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to frequently stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must be able to work in a dusty environment where temperatures vary from extremely hot to cold, work in humidity and around various chemicals.
  • Frequently operates forklift.
  • Frequently requires cleanup of limestone spillage which includes sweeping and shoveling material.
  • Frequently operates railcar mover, and end loader.

  • Frequently required to manually open and close railcar doors.
