Position Summary

Utilize process knowledge and engineering expertise to contribute to plant operations by identifying, developing, executing, and starting up new or refurbished fixed assets through engineering project execution. Capital and expense projects can include those that result in improved process yield, higher capacity, improved operating efficiencies, recognizable cost savings, improved product quality, new products, upgraded infrastructure, higher levels of personnel and environmental safety, and equipment replace/repair.  Use engineering experience to identify and evaluate process improvements and new technologies.  

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

•    Perform capital project engineering duties and process engineering duties as directed by the Engineering Manager. 
•    Implement and manage expense and capital projects that meet all regulatory requirements and company policies.  Including: feasibility reports, project estimates, scopes of work, EHS&S reviews, process change records, change management, and capital appropriations requests. 
•    Provide technical support to operations group for solving equipment operational issues. 
•    Develop capital project scopes, P&ID’s, process flow diagrams to include equipment sizing and design specifications. Provide installation and validation support for capital projects to include writing operating instructions and the supporting safety documents. 
•    Lead project teams during feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning phases of capital projects to achieve business objectives. 
•    Design and install process improvements. 
•    Coordinate and oversee contract engineering and construction/installation contractors. 
•    Provide technical expertise relating to equipment operation, maintenance, and repair. 
•    Implement process changes that improve product quality and consistency. 
•    Analyze and document plant processes and operating procedures, while meeting requirements of the ISO 9001 standard.  
•    Provide technical support to assist in problem solving for existing and new processes in the areas of procedures, methods, and/or equipment. Utilize and champion Six Sigma techniques to achieve optimal process control. 
•    Process development activities to include creation/modification of process, flow diagrams, piping, and instrument diagrams, equipment specs, control logic, etc. 
•    Actively participate and support HSM Operational Excellence opportunities. 
•    Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Major Challenges:  

•    Function in a fast paced, changing environment while managing multiple projects across multiple NA sites.
•    Optimize existing processes and implement improved technologies without compromising quality or profitability.
•    Accurately forecast monthly CAPEX spending and report out to Plant and Engineering Management.
•    Provide guidance to management for 5-year capital planning to align with business strategy.

 

Decision Making Authority:  

•    Develop, prioritize, and propose capital projects from $2.5k to $5M to various levels of management to support the 5-year business strategy.
•    Scope, bid, select, and procure process or process support equipment of varying cost and complexity.
•    Scope, bid, select, procure, and manage contractor trade or engineering works of varying cost and complexity.
•    Identify alternatives, provide estimates, and make recommendations for capital project ideas. 
 

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

•    Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of 6 years’ experience in capital project management in light to heavy industrial manufacturing environments.
•    Experience in evaluating existing and new processes, making recommendation based on these evaluations, and successfully implementing capital projects.
•    Experience in unit operations such as particle size reduction, classification, bulk material handling, pneumatic conveying, powder drying, and processing, packaging and general controls understanding preferred.
•    Knowledge of six sigma tools, statistical analysis, and problem solving is highly desirable.  
•    PMP or another professional project management accreditation preferred.
•    Strong communication and computer skills required.  Must be able to use Microsoft Office Suite including but not limited to word, excel, power point.  
•    Must work well without direct or constant supervision and adjust to changing priorities.

•    Work primarily inside in an office environment (conditioned); however, outside processes will expose employee to ambient conditions. Plant environment will expose employee to heat, cold, dirt/dust, noise (requiring hearing protection in indicated areas), wet (sometimes rain), and other ambient conditions. PPE requirements include hard hat, safety glasses, and steel toed shoes. Ear plugs and gloves are required in posted areas of the facility.
•    Walking, climbing, bending, reaching, and lifting (up to 55 lbs.).
•    Access to elevated locations by ladders and stairs as needed.
•    May be required to work extended hours.
•    Up to 50% travel required normally, may exceed 50% based on needs of larger projects.
