Position Summary
Natural Soda operates a brine processing plant in Rio Blanco county, Colorado. The prime objective of the Electrical Engineer is to support the Engineering & Maintenance Manager manage the technical details of electrical engineering and maintenance operations. Principle elements of this support will be through major project management, maintenance planning, scheduling, budgeting and supervision. This position will also be expected to be a leader in the use of the CMMS system. The Electrical Engineer will be a key resource for technical problem solving. The Electrical Engineer will work from a strategy and plan developed within the Plant Management team.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Direct all work to be completed with the highest commitment to safety – with respect to OSHA compliance and all Natural Soda policies. Be a plant leader in respect to safety.
- Instrumental in driving the Maintenance philosophy of Inspection-Planning-Execution
- Provide engineering and project management oversight for plant modifications and projects from conception through implementation. This includes both capital and major-maintenance. Development of expenditure requests, project justification, construction oversight and documentation, scheduling, planning and commissioning will be important.
- Direct the rebuild, replacement or modification for all issues around electrical power distribution. Ensure sound engineering principles are included in all power distribution issues.
- Collaborate with instrument and electrical technicians to diagnose electrical, control and other plant issues, and develop an action plan to resolve issues. This is a combination of power, instrument, DCS, PLC, VFD troubleshooting.
- Guide technicians in the use of precision maintenance practices. Ensure work is completed with common industry journeyman electrician standards.
- Ensure complete documentation through CMMS. Continually review PM program and adjust appropriately.
- Utilize Natural Soda’s network of vendors, suppliers and contractors to complete maintenance and engineering work that cannot be completed with internal resources.
- Provide adequate direction to external resources so that quality, safety and efficiency standards are maintained.
- Lead efforts to expand the use of proven technology in the plant operation.
- Drive efforts to maintain a high level of housekeeping throughout maintenance activities.
- Ensure inventory of Critical Spares is maintained through CMMS.
- Maintain plant drawing database
- Periodic and regular supervision, guidance and training of all maintenance technicians; mechanical and electrical.
- Collaborate with all departments to solve plant reliability problems.
- Communicate the severity of maintenance and engineering issues to ensure plant management can make timely and appropriate decisions related to safety, costs, production, etc.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering. P.E. or EIT.
- Prior experience in the maintenance of a production facility and/or operations preferred.
- Strong background in electrical power distribution.
- Practice in the use of schematics, electrical drawings piping diagrams, or technical orders to determine methods and sequences of assembly. Deep understand of wiring, schematic, control and loop diagrams.
- Use of precision instruments used in alignment and set-up of rotating equipment.
- Electrical instruments, Multi-meter, Oscilloscope, data logging equipment.
- Fundamental lifting and rigging for heavy equipment.
- DCS troubleshooting
- OSHA guidelines and standards
- Journeyman electrician standard practice
- CMMS and Maintenance organization
- Project Management from design to final commissioning up to $1MM
- AutoCAD proficiency
Physical Requirements
- While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk or hear.
