Position Summary

The technician is responsible for installing high-quality electro-mechanical field work, servicing plant operations, and taking measures to increase the company’s effectiveness and efficiency. 
 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

•    Install, diagnose, service and repair electrical equipment in a 3 phase – 480V industrial plant.
•    Apply knowledge and ability to use hand tools and operate test equipment such as electrical instrumentation and mechanical measuring tools according to standard millwright procedures.
•    Read and understand wiring diagrams to trace electrical circuits and ensure proper operation according to manufacturer's specifications.
•    Examine electrical equipment during operating cycles to detect excess vibration, overheating, fluid leaks, and loose, noisy or non-functioning parts.
•    Calibrate timers and thermostats, and adjust contact points as indicated.
•    Replace worn or defective parts such as switches, pumps, motors, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, heating elements and defective wiring.
•    Understand PLC control and logic.  Troubleshoot ladder-logic.
•    Understand and proficient in power transmission components consistent with belt-drive and gearbox driven production equipment.
•    Understand and troubleshoot pneumatic devices such as solenoids, cylinders and controls.
•    Provide research for part prices/availability, manufacturer's specifications, warranty status, estimate approval or other related items for customers as required.
•    Maintain a professional manner to enhance the company's image.
•    Determine and explain nature/cost of repairs to management in a clear manner to avoid miscommunication, and review work orders with other technicians and managers.
•    Maintain good housekeeping and clean-up work area prior to leaving each job in support of Food Safety program.
•    Attend and participate in technical meetings.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

Knowledge of:
•    Basic understanding of electrical systems, operations, packaging and other facilities operations.
•    Strong background in troubleshoot and repair mechanical power transmission systems.
•    Basic Record keeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques.
•    General office procedures, policies and practices, as well as basic knowledge of computer and other general office equipment.

Skill in:
•    Basic understanding of industrial operations and maintenance.
•    Accuracy and attention to detail.
•    Using a PC with basic level proficiency in document/file management, word-processing, database management, email usage and Internet browsers.
•    Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary. Communicating clearly and effectively in English, orally and in writing.
•    Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up assignments independently.
•    Using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
Mental Abilities:
•    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals. 
•    Ability to operate effectively in a team environment.
•    Ability to multitask and be flexible.
•    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and so forth.
•    Ability to maintain a courteous and helpful manner in dealing employees and with the public.

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:
•    Simple Office Equipment; equipment requiring involved set up, adjustments and operational procedures (e.g. personal computer, scanners and digital copier, printer).
•    Hand and power tools, specialty tools. Heavy- and light-duty equipment and vehicles, two-way radio, cellular phone, PDA.   
•    Software: MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), Internet Explorer, Adobe, Great Plains.

Physical Requirements

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL ABILITIES
•    While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk or hear. Employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; taste or smell, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
•    Frequently required to use close and distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
•    Work is performed frequently in both outdoor and indoor environments. Outdoor environments include exposures to summer and winter temperatures. 
•    Work environment occasionally involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles. 
•    Work environment occasionally involves exposure to high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration.
•    The employee’s working conditions are typically moderately loud and occasionally very loud. Employee must be able to work schedules as assigned, including weekends, evenings and holidays, and must be available for call-out during emergencies, inclement weather or other critical events.

Any offered salary is determined based on relevant factors such as an applicant's skills, performance, job responsibilities, prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications and market considerations.

 

U.S. Market-Based Salary Range

Electrical-Mechanical Technician III

Hiring Range $30.00 to $40.00

 

In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing payout.
