Position Summary
As a Mechanical or Chemical Engineer intern, you will participate and assist in one or more of the following: design process, review, fabrication, assembly, mechanical design, boiler steam operations, pumps and pump systems, CMMS, HVAC, cavity models, and project management.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Cooperates with the EHS&S Manager to adhere to all regulatory requirements for plant operation while maintaining a safe and clean work environment. Understands Lock/Out, Tag/Out, and Try/Out procedures.
· Performs work under the supervision of senior engineers and/or managers.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Understanding AutoCAD.
· Participate in process validation activities. Understand process flow.
· Participate in environmental and reliability testing.
- Provide process engineering assistance to troubleshoot operational problems, minimize unit interruptions, and maximize asset utilization.
- Understand cavity prediction models (monitor and predict existing cavities, use to plan well reversal/new well drilling/pullbacks).
- Works closely with Operations to understand the production and process.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with plant employees.
- Other projects as assigned.
- Prepare and formally present project work to the Plant Management at the end of the internship.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Using a PC with high-level proficiency in document/file management, word processing, database management, email usage, and Internet browsers.
- Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary. Communicating clearly and effectively in English, orally, and in writing.
- Using tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established guidelines. Software: MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), Internet Explorer, Adobe, and maintenance management system.
- Ability to speak effectively before public groups respond to questions and operate effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and so forth.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, climb, or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The Work is performed in both outdoor and indoor environments. Outdoor environments include exposure to summer temperatures. The incumbent will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, as well as exposure to high places, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The incumbent’s working conditions are typically moderately loud and occasionally very loud. Hearing protection is available and required.
