Position Summary

Leads and directs the NSI plant and solution mining operation.  The Plant Manager oversees and coordinates all Production, Packaging, Shipping, and Maintenance activities for Natural Soda.

  • One operating manufacturing plant and one warehouse facility encompassing solution mining, processing, packaging, and shipping of sodium bicarbonate.
  • Manages 60+ employees with both exempt direct reports and matrix reports in production, engineering, maintenance, EHS&S, QA/QC and shipping.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensures that plant’s financial and operating results are achieved by directing the development and implementation of contingency plans and production alternatives that maximize the utilization of people, equipment and reserve resources.
  • Ensures responsiveness to customers by working with sales and marketing to determine customer needs and to make production adjustments; and by directing the development of best-in-class systems within the plant and mine operation to:
    • focus on value added activities and continuous improvement
    • control cost and production performance.
    • support growth of existing product lines
    • implement strategic capital replacement and upgrade projects.
  • Develops and implements plans to improve operational performance based on information gathered from Commercial, Technical, and Engineering Departments to enhance business efficiencies.
  • Fosters a culture of Continuous Improvement and Sustainability with a focus on manufacturing efficiencies and performance improvements.
  • Ensures positive community relations by serving as a key interface with the local community and authorities.
  • Builds a world-class plant operations team and promotes Huber’s vision, principles and desired culture by developing the skills and leadership competencies of staff, and by creating a working environment that fosters motivation.
  • Ensures plant-wide compliance with applicable health and safety requirements and fosters a Safety-First culture.
  • Oversees regulatory permitting and compliance supporting the NSI Mine Plan, EPA UIC permit, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Establishes and upholds quality systems by directing compliance with the ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000 quality system and other applicable quality systems.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and experience in technically related area.
  • Strong Financial aptitude.
  • Minimum 10+ years progressive, industry- related experience, including 5+ years at  management level
  • Demonstrated familiarity with all aspects of plant operations, including detailed knowledge of equipment and processing methods, safety, quality and environmental regulations.
  • Must possess strategic planning, improvement, decision making, and problem solving skills.
  • Must have the ability to drive the organization for results.
  • Must have the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Must be able to travel domestically in order to progress the goals of the business.  Should not exceed 20%.
