Position Summary

As a Maintenance Manager you will be an integral part of the team focused on maintenance and reliability for a plant that produces gellan and xanthan gum. You will manage and lead a team of 35 employees. Timely, efficient and cost-effective solutions are essential to meet operations requirements to support CPK 's business strategies, operating initiatives and financial objectives. This role is in our San Diego location and is a 24/7 operation. 

What you will work on

  • Department compliance with health, safety and environmental initiatives that provide yearly improvement, and improves sector environmental management systems by auditing and enforcing procedures, by monitoring and improving equipment emissions levels, and by assuring that training is provided as necessary.
  • Support CPK's strategy, annual operating plan and budget by developing and managing the implementation of short to long range objectives and budget for the maintenance department that are coordinated with other operations departments.
  • Decide and approve appropriations requests up to specified limit on equipment requests, repairs, process changes, etc. Recommends staffing decisions Decides need for temporary and contract employees; workflow, training, performance, and first line disciplinary issues Decides operating and procedural issues regarding maintenance (training, use of equipment, staff utilization, etc.) Lockout or shutdown equipment to prevent or remove safety hazard.
  • Utilize reliability tools to drive improvements, optimize costs, and improve asset efficiency and utilization. (i.e. Bad Actor Program, RCFA, FMEA, RBI, RBM, RCM, Road-mapping)
  • Evaluate effectiveness of individual aspects of the preventive and predictive maintenance programs by showing quantitatively the impact of failures.
  • Analyze asset utilization, operating cost and failure trends to develop and prioritize a list of reliability opportunities and quantify the value of those opportunities.
  • Apply long term cost of ownership and reliability engineering principles to design reliability into purchasing requirements and optimize spare part levels.


Who you are

  • You have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, 7+ Years experience in a Reliability or Maintenance position working in a Chemical, Food or Pharma plant
  • You have managed large teams and your leadership style involves spending time with the team to see the challenges they face everyday. Earning their trust is essential in building the relationship.
  • Working knowledge of standard operating procedures and predictive/preventive maintenance practices for piping systems, rotating equipment, pressure vessels, heat transfer equipment, pumps, fans, separators, other typical process equipment, utilities and electrical systems.
  • Requires analytical ability, social skills, and a good understanding of regulatory programs.
  • Strong preference for experience in Chemical plants and experience around fermentation.
  • Strong written,verbal communication  and project management skills
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Reliability, Operations, Quality (GMP & Food Safety), EH&S; and PSM
  • Experience with various Process Unit Operations
