Position Summary

As a Process engineer you will be responsible for optimization and development of manufacturing processes within Biogums by collaborating with Innovation, Plant operations and Engineering. Your role is to identify and implement process improvements which result in higher throughput, improved efficiencies, recognizable cost savings and more consistent product quality.  The plant makes xanthan and gellan gum and is a 24/7 union operation.   • Develop new or advance existing processes for the new plant in close collaboration with Engineering, Plant Operations, and Innovation.
  • Develop, review, and maintain process engineering documentation: mass and energy balance, PFDs, P & IDs, process descriptions, function specification, and data sheet of new equipment and instruments.
  • Validate third-party calculations for equipment specification to ensure process safety.
  • Support the start-up of new systems and training of operating personnel.
  • Supervise and monitor basic and detailed designs together with the engineering company and / or internal engineering group with focus on fulfilment of scope, time, and cost, meeting the PSM standards, cGMP, safety, and environmental requirements..
  • Conduct contacts with suppliers to evaluate new equipment and equalization of technical proposals.
  • Lead studies of risk processes (HAZOP, What If) and food safety (cGMP) in new and existing projects.
  • Create and contribute to a safe working environment to meet and improve safety objectives, environment, and quality.
  • Follow the safety and environmental standards adopted by the company and implement them as a leader element.
  • Classify and prioritize risks related to PSM according to the risk matrix of JM Huber.
  • Willingness to travel to multiple sites/vendors as needed to support trials and projects.
  • This role will involve working out in the production facility with operators as well as in the office on projects 50/50.
  • Will be working with Fermenters and Distillation equipment.
  • This is a regular day schedule with on call occasionally and during shut-downs.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or mechanical engineering .
  • 1-2 internships in a manufacturing plant environment environment preferred.
  •  knowledge in PSM/HAZOP studies.
  • knowledge of unit operations, process design, M&E balance, process data analysis.
  • Familiar with AutoCAD, MS project, Excel.
  • Knowledge in food industry.
  • Knowledge of Fermentation & Distillation preferred but not required. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate (written, verbal, presentation skills) at multiple levels.
  • Proven experience in creating a culture of accountability and creating a high-performance culture.
  • Demonstrated team building, leadership, employee development and conflict resolution skills. 
  • Must work with operators and have strong relationship building skills.
  • Continuous improvement experience.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute effectively.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under various deadlines.
  • Dependable, eager to learn and accomplish goals.
  • Must be flexible to be on call when needed.
  • This is an onsite role and not hybrid.

Salary Range - 80-106K plus Bonus up to 12% and profit sharing that can go up to 21% of base. Generous 401K match - if you contribute up to 5% of your base pay we will match is 125%. Plus,  after 1 year we give you an additional match of 5% in a non-elective account.
