Position Summary

The Reliability Engineer reports to the Maintenance Manager and will provide engineering support for the optimization and improvement of mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems at the San Diego plant. This includes developing strategies/programs aimed at improving equipment availability and reducing life-cycle cost. You will create detailed Preventive and Predictive Maintenance plans/procedures through equipment manufacturers method/recommendations and coordination with operating and engineering personnel. You will manage the condition-monitoring programs including Vibration Analysis and Tribology, monitor equipment performance and failures and recommend repairs and upgrades to improve availability. Solve recurrent failures and improve reliability through design and new technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Track and investigate downtime issues in production that are related to equipment and develop a Root Cause Analysis to determine correct root cause and implement the corrective actions.
  • Consistently promote process efficiency, and effectively communicate safety and procedural issues.
  • Continuously perform duties under adherence to safety standards and GMP Policies.
  • Follow CP Kelco, state, and federal guidelines concerning safety and environmental protection in accordance with the J.M. Huber Corporation Environmental Health and Safety Policy.
  • Develop FMEA’s for all types of equipment and instruments in the plant.
  • Develop and lead Replacement and Repair projects, supporting the Maintenance Manager to manage the CAPEX budget for replacement and repair.
  • Review and keep updated the equipment and systems criticality in SAP.
  • Review and update maintenance plans in SAP, create new plans for existing and new equipment.
  • Develop maintenance contracts to improve equipment reliability.
  • Perform reliability analysis to determine the equipment plant bad actors for cost, downtime, time to repair and recurrences.
  • Perform reliability studies on identified Bad Actors
  • Perform engineering studies to improve safety on maintenance practices.
  • Coordinate the Mechanical Integrity program for the plant including Pressure Vessels regulatory inspections.
  • Keep the list of EHS critical equipment updated.
  • Participate as a maintenance representative on new CAPEX project developments.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree or related field with at least 3 years Maintenance Reliability
  • Manufacturing and food industry experience a plus
  • Experience with piping systems, rotating equipment, pressure vessels, heat transfer equipment, pumps, fans, and other process equipment.
  • Experience with electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Good knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook needed.
  • Exceptional verbal/written communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with SAP or other similar MMS.
  • Demonstrated project management ability.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of employees in a manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to visit manufacturing locations, suppliers, and technical symposia. (<10% travel)
  • Ability to walk or stand for several hours per day, with frequent need to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Visual acuity requirements include normal depth perception and 20/30 vision with or without correction.

Any offered salary is determined based on relevant factors such as an applicant's skills, performance, job responsibilities, prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications and market considerations.

 

U.S. Market-Based Salary Range

Based upon experience

$84,200 - $120,000

 

In addition to base compensation, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and profit-sharing payout.
