Position Summary

The Senior Application Technologist provides project management, innovation and application support to internal and external customers in the focused market segments and key accounts in the region.  Work closely in collaboration with market facing teams (Technical Service, Sales and Regional marketing) to achieve new business growth and defend existing business through efficient and proactive TSR work. Work closely with internal Innovation team and external institute to leverage new hydrocolloids research achievements into TSR based application work. This critical role is also responsible for lab safety management and key lab facility/equipment’s routine maintenance and safety training, especially the UHT, Homogenization and Autoclave set. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Experienced senior specialist with proven project management capabilities and indepth CPKelco product knowledge and subject matter expert in dairy and beverage segment
  • 70% focused on laboratory work, supporting complex technical details of key projects, customer visit or in depth troubleshooting. Laboratory work includes development of innovative technical solutions to provide workable concepts or to enhance performance of customer products or meeting cost element.
  • 30% focused on support lab supervisor on laboratory safety management and is responsible on key lab facility/equipment’s routine maintenance and safety related training and other activities.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Accurately Execute & document reactive and proactive technical service request, TSRs with appropriate experimental design, completed and reported in a proper and timely manner for developing new business and defending businesses. TSR work will include short to mid-term timeframe.
  • Support lab supervisor to actively interact internally within CPKelco technical community, especially with commercial and innovation team, focusing on CPKelco new products validation and application work, externally with Technical service and regional marketing on collaboration projects with allied suppliers.
  • Lead the cooperation work with external institute on complex troubleshooting projects and leverage their new hydrocolloids research achievements to support application development work.
  • Actively coach and share technical team members on the hydrocolloids application knowledge as a senior technologist, uplift the whole team’s expertise.
  • Conduct formulation work on the bench and pilot plant for specific customer situation. (Testing new products, regionalization of formulations, incorporating CPKelco products to meet specific requirement on performance, rheology, formulation cost).
  • Troubleshoot complex customer problems and provide recommendations with appropriate CPKelco hydrocolloids, process recommendation. Illustrated with prototypes and supporting data when necessary.
  • Present new application study results at select conferences and technical Seminars/innovation days with key customers/ distributors.
  • Support lab supervisor in holistic laboratory safety management, routine lab safety supervision, potential risk assessment and elimination, and ensure efficient and safe working environment.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance and servicing of the UHT/homogenizer and other unit operations.
  • Be responsible for safe, proper operation & maintenance of state of the art pilot UHT equipment to support and drive application development within core CPK growth segment, beverage.
  • Working with network of CPK UHT process experts to share and adopt best practices in the interest of pilot scale operational excellence.
  • Develop & execute efficient process design of workflow for efficient and consistent production of beverage products.
  • Design processes and small scale apparatus to study effect of unit operations on CP Kelco products.


Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

1. Education and / or experience

  • Academic Bsc./ Msc degree in Food science or processing.
  • 3-8 years experience in beverage or dairy industry in a product development and project lead role. Have Good communication skills including spoken and written English.
  • Shows initiative and good discipline.

  • Able to read and write in English. (CPKelco literature and emails exchanges)
