Position Summary

Operates furnaces, dryers and associated equipment to operate dryers, and heat thermal oil to maintain safe operating temperatures for press and wax systems.  Operates dryers and associated equipment to provide a sufficient quantity of flakes, achieving correct moisture content to ensure continuous operation of the press line. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Starts up, shuts down, and operates the drying system equipment from wet flake storage bins to dry flake storage bins by monitoring dryer control room instruments.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by notifying appropriate personnel when any equipment deficiencies are noted. 
  • Directs and monitors dryer assistant in performance of duties required to maintain safe and efficient operation of dryers. 
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. 
  • Monitors RTOs and ESP operation and documents any excursions and corrective actions during shift. 
  • Monitors press when operator is out of room. 
  • Inspects and monitors FlamEx system (fire detection). 
  • Documents actions by completing quality and production logs, charts, and reports. 
  • Categorizes and enters downtime reasons, verifying time and all other data in the downtime reports. 
  • Directs maintenance and production personnel to equipment location for troubleshooting, during upset conditions, etc. 
  • Responsible for proper test-start verification, when LOTO is being performed on equipment. 
  • Maintain operations by reading, interpreting, and applying complex written instructions in the form of Standard Operating Procedures and other written instructions.  
  • Performs general physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, moving whole body and multilimbed coordination 
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned. 

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED 

  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience preferred 

  • Experience with HMI’s, data entering, and troubleshooting by use of charts and trends preferred 

  • Experience monitoring data trends and charts to make informed decisions about quality and production rates preferred 

  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays per shift schedule
