Position Summary
To assist in the purchase of the quality and quantity of wood required to sustain the Shuqualak, Mississippi OSB (Oriented Strand Board).
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Works closely with the Wood Procurement Manager on wood procurement strategy and policy. Assist in wood payment.
- Maintains working relationships with landowners to ensure wood availability. Contact contractors and suppliers on delivery schedules for wood supply to the plant. Assists the Wood Procurement Manager and various suppliers in cruising, evaluating the value, supervising cutting, and merchandising of miscellaneous wood species.
- Negotiate and maintain contracts for raw materials
- Assist in ensuring all wood procurement policies and procedures comply with SFI principles.
- Maintain knowledge of harvesting and delivery costs. Work with accounting on inventory methods and wood costs.
- Assists the Wood Procurement Manager and acts in absence in the supervision and monitoring of wood receiving, inspection, and woodyard operation.
- Assist with supervision of scale house, operation of woodyard, and wood waste management.
- To assist in the maintenance of a budgeted inventory of wood sufficient to run the plant without interruption.
- To assist in providing a quality wood supply that adheres to wood specifications at the lowest possible cost
- Performs general physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, moving whole body and multilimbed coordination
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- B.S. degree in Forestry or related field
- 0 - 3 years wood purchasing experience preferred
- Knowledge in wood hauling, delivery, receiving, wood inspections, scaling, wood inventory and payment systems.
- GPS (global position system) knowledge a plus.
- Computer skills are required
