Position Summary

Manage the Shuqualak Facility in all aspects of Human Resources responsibilities while observing company policies and guidelines. Contributes to the creation of a productive and effective work environment by providing support and knowledge of the following Human Resources functional areas:  workplace planning and employment, Human Resources development, recruiting, orientation and onboarding, compensation and benefits, payroll, employee and labor relations, occupational health & safety, training, security, HR law, wellness, budgeting, workers compensation, DE&I, and strategic management.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recruit for the Shuqualak Area. Recruit for all Salary, Salary Non-Exempt, and Hourly positions. Also, manage the temporary services if applicable. Work with Recruiters to identify the best candidates for open positions.
  • During daily rounds of the Shuqualak Plant, identify and address issues that are brought to my attention.  Analyze each issue, develop recommendations, and establish a strategic plan to address each issue for a positive outcome.
  • Analyze issues identified by the Shuqualak Management and brought to my attention.  Discuss each issue with the appropriate Leadership Team Member.  Make decisions with the Plant Manager and upper management on addressing the issue.
  • Be a coach and mentor to the Shuqualak Management team. Discuss with managers and supervisors any actions and behaviors I see that have negative and/or positive impacts. 
  • Administer Relocation Policy for all personnel relocating to the Shuqualak Area.
  • Discuss with Shuqualak employees any issues of concern they identify.  Work with the appropriate plant personnel to correct the issue.  Develop an action plan to present to the appropriate management group.
  • Act as the Shuqualak Workers Compensation Manager.
  • Administer Shuqualak Grounds Security and assist with administering the gate system.
  • Responsible for maintaining all employee records to ensure accuracy throughout HRIS records and employee files.  This record-keeping is to be done in full compliance with applicable employment law while maintaining company standards.
  • Assist all employees with benefits administration, ensuring that all records are accurate, and issues are addressed in a timely manner.  Manage the open enrollment process annually, ensuring all current employees have the information needed to make coverage decisions as plans and benefits change.
  • Oversees charitable contributions.
  • Represent the company by serving in local community relations such as Chamber of Commerce, Business Authority, etc.
  • Act as the Crisis Communication Coordinator, handling all media communications and internal employee Communications for Shuqualak.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities Cont.

  • Work with the Shuqualak Managers to develop succession plans, including organizational charts, succession plans for each department, top grading, action items, exempt resumes, career goals, and development plans for all exempt employees.
  • Assist the Plant Manager with developing the Five (5) Year Strategy Plan for the plant.  Discuss all plan issues with the Plant Manager and, with their help, develop strategic plans for the plant.
  • Responsible for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) for the Shuqualak Facility, which includes corporate or division initiatives, local programs, events, sponsorships, associations, etc. Train employees and managers on DE&I and execute plans around talent, culture, and community.
  • Oversee the Orientation and hiring process for the Shuqualak Plant. Assist with monitoring safety training and Environmental Training for new hires.
  • Manage the wage increase for hourly, salary non-exempt, and salary employees. 
  • Review all GPS Paths for Shuqualak for salaried exempt. Make recommendations for each person's top-grade ratings concerning goals, objectives, and personal career growth.  Meet with management personnel to discuss their personal GPS Path goals and objectives.
  • Review and monitor the hourly performance appraisal system.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities Cont.

  • Address all Shuqualak conflicts between management or between employees. 
  • Develop OP&B budget for the HR Department. Develop performance metrics for HR.
  • Assist all other plant HR Managers with their concerns and issues. Field questions from all HR HEW Managers and make suggestions if needed.
  • Develop and deliver a Management Development Program for Shuqualak. Using GPS Paths, top grading, schedule, develop, and implement any training needed for management exempt, salary non-exempt, and hourly.
  • Oversee employment forecasting for the plant. Prepare monthly employment numbers. Update the Shuqualak organizational chart as needed.
  • Monitor and measure employee turnover rates while tracking the root causes.
  • Assist with safety investigations for the plant.
  • Develop the Affirmative Action Plan for the Shuqualak plant yearly.
  • Maintain and update job descriptions annually.
  • Perform job postings and awarding for all jobs at the Shuqualak Plant.

Requirements and Preferred Competencies

  • BS in Human Resources or Management required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Human Resources, preferably in manufacturing
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, working knowledge of HRIS Systems
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information and gain respect from all employees.
  • PHR Certification/SHRM-CP a plus

Major Challenges

  • To maintain constant awareness of employee performance, attitudes, and morale through daily contacts and recommend courses of action to improve them.
  • To effectively communicate, through supervisors and group presentations, changes, or new programs in personnel areas to all plant employees to ensure that these changes are understood.
  • To ensure Sector and Corporate policies are being followed.  To keep the Plant Manager and Vice-President of Human Resources informed of significant personnel-related problems and recommend action plans to resolve them.
  • To organize time and priorities to handle multiple functions effectively.
  • To utilize skills to motivate others.
  • Assists and supports the Safety and Health Manager and the Environmental Manager to meet the safety and environmental goals of the company.
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment of rapid and ongoing change.
  • Maintain current on all State, Federal, and corporate employment compensation and benefits laws and guidelines ensuring their consistent and effective application throughout Shuqualak.
  • Stay current with Human Resources “best practices” through the development of personal skills and those of the Human Resources Assistant through attendance at seminars and training opportunities.
