Position Summary

Lube technicians are primarily responsible for lubricating the machines. They manage the oil storage building, grease bearings, top-up machines, perform oil changes, make or support decisions to upgrade or change a lubricant. They work with lubricant suppliers and consultants to keep machines running smoothly. They also manage contamination cotrol efforts by maintaining breathers and filters, using filter carts. Lube techs work closely with mechanics to troubleshoot machine problems that might be lubrication related. Lube techs require a thorough understanding of lube storage and handling, lubrication fundamentals and contamination control. |
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Daily, weekly, and shutdown lubrication PM routes.
- Inventory control over all lubricants.
- Keeping the lube building clean and organized.
- Keeping the HPU’s clean and organized.
- Inspecting and replacing breathers, filters, and oil.
- Maintaining the proper lubrication of motors, rotating equipment, sliding equipment, and hydraulic equipment.
- Maintain auto-lubrication systems and filters.
- Taking measurements utilizing tape measures, gauges, IR thermometer, Ultrasound, etc.
- Writing workorders and completing workorders in TabWare and logging information on spreadsheets.
- Be able to receive the MLT (Machinery Lube Technician) within the first year.
- Collect fluid samples for analysis, review analysis results, and make recommendations.
- Service and maintain airline filter/lubricants.
- Oil chains, sprockets, and drives throughout the plant as required by the plant lubrication program.
- Clean all excessive grease and oil from equipment after servicing.
- Preform duties in a clean and orderly fashion to avoid contamination of lubricants with dust, dirt, water, etc.
- Observe and report any mechanical deficiencies to Maintenance Supervisor while doing routes, i.e., worn bearings, chains, defective airlines, thermal oil leaks, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Team Leader to include shutdown work.
- Fabricate and install remote lines and brackets which may contain several grease fittings.
- Operate portable hand tools; drills, motors, band saw, and grinders.
- Demonstrate the ability to work both independently and with a team.
- Consistently practices safe working habits and actively work to promote safety to others.
- Follow checkout procedure when removing items from the storeroom.
- Manage disposal of waste and report any issues to the EHS team.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED, 3+ years’ manufacturing experience,
- Good Mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work with others as a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and TabWare CMMS preferred.
- Proficient math skills.
- Ability to climb and work in high or confined space.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
- Have knowledge of industrial tools and their uses.
- Have excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
