Position Summary
To plan, organize, direct and control all production activities so that a quality product is produced and shipped at a minimum cost and optimal customer satisfaction.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Advises and assists the Production Superintendent in the development and administration of policies which concern the operation of the plant.
- Plans and directs all major activities related to the mill operation to ensure the most efficient and economical operation.
- Monitors, directs and trains Shift Supervisors (Team Leads) to effectively perform their jobs. Recommends training in management or technical skills.
- Works with the Maintenance Superintendent in planning and performing the plant maintenance function and preventative maintenance program.
- Maintains product quality standards. Maintains close liaison with the Technical Manager.
- Prepares budget objectives for the production department and initiates action to bring actual costs in line with budgets.
- Directs the maintenance of records concerning production and prepares related reports and correspondence.
- Ensures that high standards of employee and community relations are maintained by the plant staff.
- Assists in the development of a succession plan, initiating on-the-job training to prepare subordinates for future advancement.
- Recommends the acquisition and use of additional machines and equipment by the plant. Evaluates and recommends new operating methods.
- Updates Standard Operating Procedures for all plant processes continually. Communicates and instructs department supervisors of changes and deviations. Audits production activities to ensure compliance.
- Reviews production reports, analyzes problems, and recommends action working with Plant Manager, Technical Manager, Production Superintendent, Production Supervisors and Maintenance Superintendent.
- Keeps the Production Superintendent informed of significant developments and assumes the duties of the position when absent to the extent authorized.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner is an essential job function.
Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
- 5-10 years of experience in composite wood industry in a manufacturing environment with leadership responsibilities.
- Proven track of continuous improvement.
- Knowledge in safety, environmental and personnel rules and regulations.
- 2- or 4-year degree in related field strongly preferred.
