Position Summary

To establish quality methods and procedures to support all manufacturing processes.  To coordinate quality programs and supervise quality personnel. To organize, direct and control all activities relating to quality control that will ensure production of a consistent and high-quality product at a minimum cost. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assure employees abide by Company Safety Policies.  Establishes and enforces safety procedures and policies pertinent to QA Department employees and equipment.

  • Coordinate with Supply Chain Manager to order/schedule raw material deliveries based on the production schedule.

  • Develop and implement root cause and corrective action procedures.

  • Train lab technicians and production associates on basic SPC practices

  • Train employees on finished product specifications during New Hire Orientation

  • Work with process engineering to develop/maintain standardized work practices (one point lessons) in the test lab and manufacturing areas.

  • Support manufacturing and process engineering in the development of specific operating documents and machine settings for the purpose of maintaining product quality.

  • Maintain ISO 9001-2000 Quality Management System documentation requirements for product quality manuals, appropriate written procedures, work instructions, and quality records such as (test results, calibration records, process control charts, downgrade data, internal audit results, corrective action records, etc.)

  • Conduct annual internal audits of the Quality Management System

  • Reject and segregate nonconforming product and make necessary adjustments in the manufacturing process as it relates to product quality up to and including production shutdown

  • Develop and maintain excellent housekeeping practices for Test Lab and quality assurance testing equipment in accordance with accepted standards.

  • Assist the Director of Customer Satisfaction on customer complaints and claims. Make recommendations and take actions necessary to address concerns and prevent recurrence.

  • Evaluates employee performance for those employees supervised and annually completes employee performance evaluation reports.  Handles disciplinary action in a fair, uniform manner and in accordance with Company policies.

  • Develops a succession plan, initiating training to prepare subordinates for future advancement.

  • Work with PFS TECO and UL to maintain quality records and provide evidence of meeting PS2 and ESR requirements during routine audits.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required in Wood Science, Engineering, or Management.
  • QA Experience in OSB or related Wood Industry
  • Proficient in: Excel, Mini Tab, Word, Infinity Software, Spreadsheets, Databases, and Statistical Packages.
  • Competence in Statistics and statistical tools required: SPC, Lean Sigma, etc
  • Raw material purchasing Experience
  • Experience with interacting with Customers
  • English Language Skills (written and oral)
  • Proven technical decision-making ability
