Position Summary

Guides efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities and maintenance activities.  Defines, develops, administers, and helps refine the preventive/predictive maintenance program.  Reduces and improves maintenance activities wherever feasible; assuring efficient and productive operation of plant, processes and equipment; while protecting and prolonging the economic life of plant assets; all at the least costs practical.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Help to develop and administer an overall preventative/predictive maintenance program and update existing programs
  • Ensures that all maintenance activities and activities comply with all safety, health and environmental requirements.
  • Monitor and improve lubrication processes throughout the mill including responsibility for Oil Analysis, Lube Routes, Thermography, Vibration, Ultrasound, etc
  • Conduct RCA investigations for recurring failures and significant downtime events, eliminating potential for future recurrence.
  • Analyze equipment histories to identify specific repetitive failures and effectively address identified areas.
  • Ensure responsible personnel are trained in carrying out programs and procedures.
  • Refine work content of PDM routines to improve methods.
  • Periodically compare PDM frequencies to downtime reports and equipment histories to identify where frequencies of routes or data collection methods require adjustments.
  • Review all equipment failures and determine what PM/PDM action might have been taken to prevent failure to protect against recurrence.
  • Regularly review downtime reports and equipment histories to identify reoccurring maintenance problems requiring engineering attention.  Find applicable solutions to identified situations.
  • Work with maintenance planners to develop job plans and PM’s.
  • Develop and standardize a program that aids and influences the decisions for new construction and equipment purchases including materials, equipment, and spare parts.
  • Ensure that accurate and up to date spare parts lists are available for existing equipment; specify standardization of components used in repair. 
  • Identify potential for cost reduction through extended parts life, reduced labor costs, and other parts related improvement techniques.
  • Participate in review phases of design of capital additions and changes in plant layout to ensure full maintainability of equipment, utilities, and facilities.
  • Participate in approval of all new installations, including those done by contractors.
  • Identify, based on data and field observations, any training required to improve craft skill levels or repair techniques.
  • Study corrosion, fatigue, wear, and erosion rates throughout the plant and initiate corrective action as required.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

  • Engineering or Technical degree in a related field and/or 5 years’ experience in a related reliability role in an industrial manufacturing environment or a combination of both.
  • Communication skills (presentation, written, oral).
  • Computer skills in CMMS systems, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Ability to lead a team to achieve company goals.
  • Strong focus on planning, employee relations, safety management, and program development.
  • Working knowledge of EH&S regulations and compliance.
